Thanks: Gave 12, Got 22 | Impressed with the 'new' Green Day album?
Green Day - American Idiot
I just cant keep this album out of my stereo at the moment. I've kind of been an on/off Green Day fan - liked some stuff, hated other stuff. After their indifferent last album, I was skeptical about getting the new one but I stumbled across it on a listening post in one of my local record stores. I listened to it all the way (the staff were looking at me funny) once and was not instantly blown away, but there were some catchy moments and I decided to give it a try. Over the last month I have practically worn the CD down. It is extremely intelligently written (a concept album about living in post-9/11 America) and the songs flow together easily and are interesting and catchy. Nice blend of fast and medium paced stuff.
Allmusic cover it pretty well, although dont give much breakdown of the songs... http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...gjveae74x07~T1
All in all, highly recommended. What do others think?

My sentiments exactly, it's catchy but not great to start with but just gets progressively better. Then it's just really easy to listen to after that.
I liked Warning though, and Kerplunk, and Dookie, and Insomniac and Nimrod etc...
Edit: Having just written that list I'm starting to wonder if Green Day are going to be "bigger" than The Clash or The Ramones, they've certainly got more consistently good albums.

I'd never thought of that before, I like all the Green Day albums, I have all the Clash albums but a couple never really did it for me.

im actually listening to it now,
its nowhere near as good as nimrod etc but the songs are catchy and some are a little different which is ace.
although one question remains.... 9minutes and 8 seconds for the song entitled jesus of suburbia, a song that isnt really a song at all, its 3 songs, it changes drastically and as a 9minute track doesnt work, it should really be seperated. self indulgance.....
boulevard of broken dreams is a classic track tho, finally a decent use of a tremelo effect!

Hmm...have to disagree with you there mr jones, I think the Jesus Of Suburbia 'medley' is one of the highlights of the album and fits together very nicely. Yes there are some radical changes from piece to piece, but I could not see them as individual songs. It's a nice idea, it breaks the album up and makes for 2 intreguing and enjoyable pieces, IMO |

| So by that reasoning would you heave expected Bohemian Rhapsody to be 6 one minute songs ? I think it's a great track.

A bit of a thread resurrection I know, but I've just come across American Edit by Dean Gray
I'm totally intrigued by it, has anyone else come across it yet? It's been around for a while and caused quite a stir in the US apparently like Dangermouse's Grey Album. |

I bought this on the strength of the title track, which is soooo good, but the rest of the album took a bit of work to get into. I think I was expecting more energetic stuff, similar to the title track, so was slightly disappointed at first, but having listened to it a few more times, it's definitely grown on me, although I would choose The Black Parade (My Chemical Romance) over this every time.
