Thanks: Gave 222, Got 68 | New U2?
What do folks think of the new album?
Got on Saturday - and first impressions are, as Simon Cowell would say, distinctly average!
There's no real stand outs, a few times I think "here we go", then it falls flat.
Maybe it'll grow on me with more listens?

Donnacha
I agree. Mind you they haven't done a truly great album since The Joshua Tree in my opinion. Plenty of great songs since but I only ever play JT and Unforgettable Fire these days

It is getting a bit better with each listen. It won't be as good as the last one though

Got it on Monday and at first I thought that it had afew stand out tracks and afew fillers.
Now I think its a great album, just not what people where expecting.
There isn't a bad track on the album.

Like all truly great albums, this one requires several listens. I must admit, when i first heard a few of the tracks i was distinctly underwhelmed. However, a couple of weeks later and approx 20 - 30 plays i think this album is up there with the Joshua Tree and, more importantly Achtung Baby.
So, great to have them back. As has been said already, not a weak track on the album. True, it will probably not convert you if you've never been a fan but there is definitely something there for U2 fans of any era.

Awesome..... Really personal. Bono really pushing to the limit of his vocal range. Some times you Cant Make it on Your Own....... gets me a'blubbin.
Vertigo sounds as if it belongs to another album altogether. Maybe that's what's thrown some people.
Agree with the sentiments that all great albums need a number of listens before they sink in. That how you begin to associate yourself and empathise with the lyric.

jury is still out for me.. i liked the frst 3 tracks... thinking wow this is going to be an excellent album but then i kinda felt let down by the remainder of the album... some excellent intro to songs... great guitar but sort of let down by the lyrics... ah well maybe it will grow on me... stand out track for me at the moment is track 3... hate the way the tempo changes about 2/3rds through the song though... ah well roll on next summer and the tours!

Ok, I've listened and I think it is 'distinctly average'. As I felt with the last album, I think Bono's voice is withering and he is past-it in my opinion. The Edge is more prominent on this album, and I admit it has some good moments, but overall I think U2 have never and will never scale the heights of Achtung Baby, IMO

Yes I have, but when he strains his voice I cant help thinking he's about to start coughing and spluttering. Hey, maybe I've just got this strange thing in my head about his voice, but I just can't dig it anymore. Maybe it's just me |
