Band Aid III - What do you think ?

...5 hours later and nobody has yet commented...

So what does everybody think of the song then ? Forgetting the fact that it is for a good cause, what do you think of the song ?

When the line-up was announced I was initially excited by the prospect of hearing the latest artists performing this classic song, one that instantly reminds me of Christmas and always gets the hairs standing up on the back of my neck (and again, before anyone tries to tell me that it is the cause we should remember and not the song, I am well aware of why it was done - the original song was all the more haunting for it).

What have they done... . It sounds like the they have recorded at the local Nursery School... when the teacher was out...

...and as for the Darkness wailing all over the end with big screechy guitars - what's all that about.

They could have done an excellent version with the talent available but this seems to be a complete mish mash - it's all over the place. They could have updated a classic, paying homage to the original, but I for one am very disappointed by what they have done - it seems rushed...

Not a song the artists will be proud of I'm sure. We all hope it earns millions, but a better effort all round could have been made. It may appeal to 'the kids' (God I sound old), but for those of an age, who were in their teens when the original came out, this seems to blur the memory of an old worn favourite - sorry to say.

my god it is terrible.....

the rapping half way through totally breaks the flow of the song, the mix is terrible and it sounds relly clunky. Doesn't seem to fit together somehow. Not looking forward to hearing this 10 times a day till christmas...

Just heard it on the radio.

Great cause. Lousy record. Sounds like a Karaoke version. Just who is it singing at the beginning? Can they actually sing? didn't sound like it. Agree totally with the guitar wailings at the end - the whole job sounds like a lash-up to me.

Even the DJs on my local station have been slating it as well - which is not usually the case for something like this when everyone is supposed to be pulling together.

I'm sorry to say this, but I don't think this will sell anything like the first 2 versions, which is a damn shame.

It sounds like they were just going through the motions and couldn't be bothered to make any real effort. And that (c)rapping. It ruins what little merit the song has.

I'd give money to the charity not to hear it.

it sounds like a mish mash of "blink and you'll miss them" talent contest winners and "stars" of the moment all trying to out-sing eachother. I bet most of them had to have a lecture about the situation in Africa just so they knew what it was all about...Joss Stone is the absolute worst, waving her arms about like a nutter...and Jamelia actually thought Sir Bob's surname was Gandalf!!! It's not like the old days...

No, i'm afraid Joss Stone was guilty of that one too...

...who'd have thought that Gandalf's first name was 'Bob'.

Bob: Confound it all, Samwise Gamgee. Have you been eavesdropping?

Sam: I haven't been droppin' no eaves sir, honest. I was just cutting the grass under the window there, if you'll follow me.

Bob: A little late for trimming the verge, don't you think?

Sam: I heard raised voices.

Bob: What did you hear? Speak.

Sam: N-nothing important. That is, I heard a good deal about a ring, and a dark lord, and something about the end of the world, but please, Mr. Bob, sir, don't hurt me. Don't turn me into anything... unnatural.

Although it is for a very good cause, would totally agree with the negative comments above so far, i have only heard about the first minute and half.

Thumbs down Band Aid 3

Not for a long time have I heard something like that. Wow! What a total bag of ****e! Dizzee Rascal is one of the most untalented ''artists'' I have EVER heard. Come on Bob, you can do better than that piece of crap.

Words cannot describe how much they have horribly ruined a song that usually manages to force some kind of emotion out of me (not easy i tell you!)

What were they thinking when they put Dizzee on?

I reckon they should just chuck the original on the B side and people wouldn't have to feel bad about buying 4 minutes of crap just for charity!

Dizzy's rap is his first take because they liked it so much (wonder what the others were like ), he came into the studio did his thang and left again. A quote from a source "He added his style to the piece" im surprised they didnt get Mike "the streets" Skinner in. Prob would have gone like this

Its Christmas Time
they aint got no Wine
went to the shops and thought
what have i just bought
theres stavin kids out there
ill skip the bus and give them my fare
Band Aid 20 record will be a hit
shame its a pile of ....

But what is going on at the end, did they forget how to play the guitar or were they swatting a fly with it, or they just didnt know how to fill time. BG could have re released the original and people would have bought it.

Just give the money to a charity instead

You can watch the video here:

http://coullmedia.ld.mediawave.co.uk...deoplayer.asp#

Hadn't heard the song or seen the video before so just watched it. Read what everyone else said first so was expecting the worst. So was suprised to hear that it's not that bad. Not brilliant but not . Would give it 5/10

I may be a cynic but the bit where they are all watching the starving kids on TV and the camera pans around to focus on their 'upset and concerned' faces made my stomach turn, remind me how many cars you have now, if you could just squeeze out a tear or two that would really help with album sales.

I find it grossly patronising the way they're being portrayed as doing something so noble out of the goodness of their hearts when its clearly for self promotion of here today gone tomorrow pop acts who have far more money than the rest of us
