Why can't dvd audio discs take more information????

Just had a bit of a brainwave

Well dvds have a huge storage capacity against normal cds. Surely then, dvd-audio discs can be made with 3,4,5 or more albums per disc. Is this possible? I reckon it would be considering 4 hours of video can be put onto dvds. Am I missing anything here???? I'd love the complete works of the Beatles on 2 discs!

Yes, you're missing something

The "point" of a DVD-Audio disc is to store information at higher resolution (higher sampling rate and more bits per sample), which obviously takes up more space on the disc - even more so when the multi-channel aspect is taken into account...

Of course, you're also right - you could fit lots of 16bit 44.1Khz stereo tracks onto a DVD if you wanted to... see this thread audio cd onto dvd-r
