Wouldn't say i'm a 'fan'.. but I've got the first album and there are 4 or 5 tracks which make it onto the playlist every saturday night..

he's achieved something unique and very musical in an unconventional way.. top marks for effort..

How does the new album compare to the first one ?

I must say that Original Pirate Material is much better than A grand...

'Turn the page' is the best track Skinner has done, or will ever do.

You got a time machine? I think it's a bit early to be writing him off.

'Dry your eyes' is the best tune, even if the radio stations will probably play it to death.

I hated his 'pirate material' but find the new album very enjoyable.

Cheers, Mylo

Why am I writing him off???? I just know that he will never top his first album. A grand don't come for free is not a patch on original pirate material.

My opinions are the polar opposite to yours. OPM is awesome. By comparison AGDCFF is pretty slow and tuneless.

I like music to have passion and bite. I reckon Skinner will make maybe 1 more album. After that he'll either have run out of ideas or be burnt out.

Have to agree OPM is the better album, the grand album has the running story going through it about his "bird" which I think is its downfall as there was more variety and amusing anecdotes in the first. Anyone want another Marlon ?

from what I've heard they're ok - they remind me of an late 80's band called 'I Ludicrous' (I think!) - I've done a search for them without any luck...will keep trying tho...

Not sure what it is, whether its because of all the airplay they've been getting recently or because they actually are good, but I now like them quiet a lot. Wasn't fussed about their earlier stuff.

original pirate material was a sweet album, and still gets enough play by me
a grand dont come for free has a different approach with the 'story' running through it from start to end, but i think its still a very good album and is such a welcome change to all the boy bands and pop idols.
the streets have the balls to be different and pull it off by my mind, ive also heard that their amazing live too.
which is something that most newish bands cannot claim

That new single 'Dry Your Eyes' is the only song of his that has any heart. Great tune, shame about the rest of them.

Funny that, listened to the album (OPM) this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not sure about his new "soppy" love song type stuff - I enjoyed OPM because of the simple beats and funny lyrics. I'm gonna wait to hear more AGDCFF single releases before buying AGD......

I had enjoyed OPM and thought grand was a very clever concept, I agree that he would have to come up with something remarkable to have the longevity of some bands but then again I have only 3 Prodigy albums.......

I rate the streets. Mike Skinner is an accomplished song writer. I love the way he crafts a song. Somewhat like Johnny Cash, his songs have a story feel to them that make you want to listen to the vocals.

Superb.

Dry your eyes is number one in the Hit Parade (smashy and nicey). For the record...I reckon he is ace - one of the most original acts for a while. Each to their own and all that though...

Are you off your head, It'll take skinner another 50 years and 60 or 70 albums to get half as good as the man in black, only then if he is lucky.

I do like the chorus in Dry Your Eyes, but the chat goes on for too long
