Vinyl lovers - what have you just bought?

Love vinyl.

Just bought a Japanese copy of the Human League's "Dare" album - absolutely mint and a steal at £12.

Awaiting my remaster of Sinatra's "Sinatra at the Sands" on 180g vinyl. One of my all time favourite albums - should be delivered any day now at a cost of £32.

I have an extensive vinyl collection (from many years of being in the entertainment business) but I'm replacing some old vinyl with remasters as well as purchasing additional material.

Anybody else?

The Time Has Come ep - UNKLE 2x 12"

£8 from the local Oxfam music shop, it has plenty of vinyl for sale, they take the prices from the record collector guide book so your not going to get any real bargain of the pay £1 it's worth £100 type thing. I have not bought much vinyl over the last few years but now I have my turntable set up I might start buying agin.

Last album? Black Sabbath Vol4 Earmark pressing. Not as good as the awesome 'Master Of Reality' Earmark (the first EVER version I've had that sounds consistently great) but still better than my original vinyl and leaps ahead of the CD versions.

My 180g limited copy of "Sinatra at the Sands" landed yesterday. Can't wait to give it a listen. Currently awaiting new cabinet for the music system though

I assume you're all buying the vinyl in person at a shop? I would be afraid to order something like this over the internet knowing how a lot of my packages arrive!

Hi Kieron,
That's a good price, where's it from?
I've been looking for that on DVD-A for ages, only seems available for silly money

Range of sources, mainly online. Ebay is great for 'original vinyl', but places like Diverse vinyl are well worth a look. Amazon also has vinyl re-issues, and the online market place musicstack.com is worth searching for both bargains and rarities.

I am spoilt on Merseyside though as there are still quite a few decent local sources of vinyl.

I picked up a mint copy, with the original inserts of Steve Harleys 'The best years of our lives' from the shop nearest me!

Thanks Overkill I'll check out the sites you mention, there used to a couple of good 2nd hand vinyl shops in town...wonder if there still there, I'll have to check them out. At the moment my main source for 2nd hand vinyl and CDs is the local Oxfam Music store which is actually quite good.

I get mine from System Records. Extremely well packaged.

Sinatra, Frank - Live At The Sands - 2LP

My Dad is a collector and former dealer, he is still offloading a lot of his old collection (had over 10k records) on ebay, being a collector himself he understands how shipping can be a problem so takes extra precaution when shipping them out using double protectors - some of the records he has shipped out have sold for £200+ (Sisters of Mercy test pressings etc) and the buyers have been very happy with them and how they were shipped, when buying from ebay it's worth checking their feedback and what users are saying about the quality and the packing. It is possible to get decent pieces from ebay and the like you just need to do your research into the user

Santa is bringing me the new Rega RP1 for Christmas this year as I fancied returning to vinyl. I've bought a mixture over Amazon, charity shops and a record store in Chester indoor market. So far I've bought

Bon Iver - For Emma Forever Ago
Blue Note Trip - Sunday Morning
Deacon Blue - When The World Knows Your Name
Lionel Richie - All Night Long
Sade - Diamond Life
Phil Collins - Face Value
Whitney Houston - Whitney
Howard Jones - Humans Lib
Joe Jackson - Look Sharp
Thompson Twins - Into The Gap
Madonna - You Can Dance

Off the top of my head I think that's it for now. Apart from the top 3, the rest are second hand, 3 of them only cost me a quid each and they all seem to be in tip top condition. Of course I haven't played any of them yet, gotta wait a few weeks yet but I can't wait.

Some great choices there, will definitely be grabbing the Lionel Richie and Phil Collins albums. Must pay a visit to out local charity shops once I've got rid of this man flu, builders, car back from service etc etc!

Much of mine comes from Discogs which is in terms of choice, reliability and pricing is absolutely superb.

Last purchase, Nick Drake, Pink Moon. Almost worth it for the cover alone;

I've just started collecting as well! Inherited about 100 from my dad including some which are in the best condition possible without still being sealed, including Zeppelin I - IV :D The rest might have some slightly scuffed corners at most, including most of Rainbow, Deep Purple, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy and Zeppelin.

The last one I bought was Constitution of Reason by God Forbid just because I wanted something brand new. And a number of weeks ago in Brighton I picked up Scorpions Blackout, World Wide Live and Taken by Force. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and Echoes which is in fantastic condition.

I'm buying a pre-amp this week so I can hook my current player into my receiver, and I might buy a new player as well if I feel like parting with the money at that time.

Just pulled the trigger on Iggy & the Stooges-"Raw Power" on Sundazed. This is the original David Bowie-mixed version as opposed to the 1997 remix by Iggy which is just too painful to listen to in its entirety (even the vinyl version is too distorted for my liking, although infinitely more listenable than the '97 CD). I can't wait until I get my mitts on it; I've got the Sundazed pressings of "The Stooges" and "Funhouse" which both sound fantastic. Unfortunately it may be a while before it arrives as I've ordered it direct from Sundazed in the US, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait!

Thinking of buying that turntable next year, could you possibly let me know what it is like?

When you do get back to us. There are a few decent TT's at that price, and you can pick up high end 90's TT's on fleabay for a song.

Eek indeed! They've released a whole range of special Anniversary products and every one of them seems to be priced at the 2K mark.

Probably aimed at the Japanese market. They love solid slabs of expensive, Japanese made TT!

Sorry, been busy last few days.

Yes, I'll certainly give you some feedback once I get my mitts on the deck. I've heard very good things about it so far.

:D bought a Project Essential & Cambridge Audio 540p yesterday! I know it's not super high quality gear, but that's all I need at the moment. I've got a bunch of records already that are in great condition, but where do you guys buy stuff from aside from local stores?

I tend to use the websites listed above and eBay.

My "Electric Dreams" album arrived - sounds great.

I know my lovely Wife has bought me quite a bit of Vinyl for Xmas.

Still looking for Michael Jackson's new album "Michael" though....

Wife surprised me with a mint 7" copy of Elvis Costello's "Oliver's Army" today to replace a broken copy from years ago. Brilliant
