I hope its the non picture disc version!

I ended up with a UK release of Rocky IV...and a Rocky II, III and IV marathon last night....your fault

Bought a nice (second) copy of Floyd's Wish You Were Here today....love the album so bought a copy with the black outer wrap! I'll flog on the other copy which sounds superb now I've cleaned it....the silent passages are exactly that

The only other thing I'm looking out for is a good copy of Floyd's Pulse but it doesn't look likely for a while....ah well, record fair in Belfast next month so you never know!

Haha. I was looking at a Japanese "Rocky 2" and "Best Of" last night. Almost pulled the trigger but need to be a bit frugal at the moment.

The "Breakin'" LP isn't the picture disc, always shy away from those. Now looking for "Beat Street Vol 1&2"

This was from a different Japanese seller. I'll drop the link a little later - he seems to have quite a bit of "mint" vinyl.

Must also try and list out my 180g, German and Japanese vinyl - bet I've got a fair amount of it now.

Not sure if you like Gary Numan - I have the 180g of "Pleasure Principle" that I gave a serious listening to yesterday - what a sound! I did have to dial in the arm height to compensate for the heavier vinyl but once I had it sounded out of this world. A great pressing.

Looks like it goes for a lot of money One ended recently on ebay for over £300 !!

One of my favourite PF LP sets is Echoes. I paid £35 for a new copy which I thought was good.

My Japanese copy of Breakin' (Breakdance) arrived today. Mint sums it up - the OBI, the insert, the cover and most importantly of all the vinyl doesn't have a mark on it. Amazing considering the age. Blows my old tape and CD copies away. Super clarity.

Another thing I must add about Japanese eBay sellers, they certainly know how to package records. I'm always surprised with how careful they are with the items, everything comes separated in one package then sealed in a clear bag then covered in bubble wrap then placed between two pieces of cardboard and finally placed into a cardboard outer. Fantastic!

Now I need to find Beat Street Vol 1&2 with the above qualities!

It pains me buying non Japanese vinyl now I've been spoilt!!

Anything else I've bought from the US or EU thats been described as NM or VF+ has arrived nothing like that...

The 50 or so Japanese vinyl I've picked up recently have been nothing short of VF+ and most higher!

I've always wanted to go to Japan...wonder if the record shops are all like that?? I could nearly justify a visit

Count me in!

Totally agree with what you said regarding UK/US purchases. I'm at the point now where I will only buy US/UK from a small vinyls store in Blackpool so that I can inspect the vinyl. They actually have a lot in stock and any marked vinyl goes in sale boxes. The racked LP's are all pretty much spot on. A couple of quid here and there dearer than the bay but nice to inspect.

Anything I really want i'm now only buying either Japanese or 180g. At a push, German if I can't source.

I'm desperately looking for Bowie: The Singles Collection which was a UK only 3 LP set though!

I bought Fame and Fashion recently as a compilation compromise...It contains my favourite tracks...I like Bowie but hes one of those artists I like tracks here and there!

I'm still completing my Floyd back catalogue...might have found a guy selling everything pre Division Bell for a decent price so fingers crossed!

Been buying some decent stuff from ************ recently....some over graded, some under...the usual!!

Ended up purchasing a sealed copy of Pulse so will sell my other copy when it arrives!

Also picked up a sealed copy of the Korean version of The Division Bell which sounds superb so very happy with that!

I've now about a dozen wants but they're all over £20 in any condition worth having....sad thing is they're all modern age and I've picked up plenty of great bronze & silver stuff for pittance!!

Paid a visit to a local Record Fair on the weekend. Walked in with a crisp £20 note in my pocket, walked out with

Steely Dan - Greatest Hits
Steel Dan - Aja
Madonna - Like A Virgin
Madonna - True Blue
Kate Bush - Sensual World
Talk Talk - Colour Of Spring
Joe Jackson - Body And Soul
Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life
Billy Joel - The Stranger
Falco - Rock me Amadeus (12")
Harold Faltemeyer - Axel F (12")

All in fantastic condition apart from Talk Talk is slightly crackly at the start of the album, does get better though and Steely Dans Greatest Hits is a crap recording. All in all I think I had a real bargain.....oh, I cam back with a £1 change!!

Sounds like you got a result there SirDoss!

I've had to curb my Japanese vinyl spending, have my eye on a few albums but all from different sellers soothe postage is going to be a killer. It is my birthday soon so hopefully grab some more then.

Mrs Kieron is buying me one of those "anti-stat" vinyl cleaning machines so that should breathe a bit of life back imto the very old discs I have

Yeah, I recall people talking about that album on another forum a while ago, seemed it was a hard find. The album is fantastic sound quality, just a shame the first track is crackly, even after a wash. Still, for £1 I can't complain. I'm really enjoying Aja, that is also cracking sound quality, there again the record itself is very thick, lovely album to mellow out to and contains Deacon Blues, which I love.

I really want to preorder the limited edition of Tron Legacy but £25 is quite a bit of money.

Tron: Legacy [VINYL]: Daft Punk: Amazon.co.uk: Music

Could be worse....Gladiator Soundtrack [VINYL]: Hans Zimmer & Lisa Gerrard: Amazon.co.uk: Music

Some modern releases have pie in the sky pricing!

Anybody getting (or hoping to get!) anything from the Record Store Day releases?

Looks like I'll have to travel a couple of hundred miles to find a store stocking anything so I'll likely give it a miss!!

Picked up a load more stuff from ************ recently....some nice stuff at decent prices...some drek of course but overall seems better than eBay!

Strange Games & Funky Things Vol 1 (2 x LP)
Strange Games & Funky Things Vol 2 (2 x LP)
Strange Games & Funky Things Vol 3 (2 x LP)
Strange Games & Funky Things Vol 5 (2 x LP)
S.S.O Orchestra - Faded Lady (7")
Bukem - Earth Vol 1 (5 x LP)
Zero 7 - When It Falls (2 x LP)

Stoked to get a copy of Earth 1 for a decent price, means I now have the full set, Vols 1 to 6 boxed, vol 7 white promo

How many other people on here use Discogs to buy / sell / log their collection?

Also triple vinyl release of J Rocc's Cold Rock Stuf arrived fresh from CA yesterday, looking forward to checking out what's on the mystery 3rd disc

Hi All,

I recently bought a second hand Project debut II on the classifieds here and hooked it into my new home cinema amp (I know, I know..sacrilige ) but it has a phono stage and I wasn't prepared to spend that much. I do have an old technics stereo amp up in the loft with a phono stage on it, so may be tempted to try it.

Anyways I've been around a few charity shops and online recently to start buying some stuff to feed the turntable (had about 20-30 albums stored away from years gone by already). So far I've bought:

New
Joe Bonamassa - Dust Bowl (sounds good but could do with more oomph)
Black Country Communion - self titled 2 LP (poor production of the album in my opinion)

Secondhand
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Hits (decent condition)
The Best of the James Gang (crackly and a couple of skips, expected better fro £8)
Love / Hate - Wasted in America (great condition for £1)

I'm always on the look out now for Vinyl. A work colleague is bringing in his old collection that's been in the garage to see if I want any of it !

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I find on most of my records that the vocals (mid range stuff) also sounds like its a little distorted at higher volumes. Is that down to the cartridge/stylus/LPs ? I'm a complete Vinyl novice so excuse my ignorance !!

Love/hate Wasted in America for a £1!

Just bought a French pressing of 'New Boots and Panties'. Hopefully it won't be 'misrepresented' in terms of condition as Ebay Lp's often are.

On the latter comment, did the Styli come with the TT? If you are getting distortion that might be the first port of call. You also said things on some Lp's are lacking in 'oomph', that too could be sign of stylus wear.

If the Stylus is new, or has low mileage, a mismatch between Phono input and Cartridge is possible - particular an onboard Phono stage. Have a look (if possible) at the cartridge loading and the Phono stages impedance. For more more info go here:- Vinyl Engine | The Home of the Turntable and here for guides on setup:- Galen Carol Audio Helpful Articles on How To Get the Most Performance From Your Audio or Video System

I hear what you are saying about costs, but I would hunt down a separate Phono stage down on Ebay. Brands like Creek, Cambridge audio, etc do reasonably priced ones that go for sensible money on there.

Only high end amps come with worthwhile onboard phono stages now.

Thanks for the response, the stylus did come with the turntable and listening to some new (secondhand) purchases last night it does sound distorted with careful listening on headphones! So perhaps the stylus is worn down. Are they easy to replace, I assume I just buy a like for like replacement or does it matter on the type / quality?

Thanks again

You could just replace the one thats with it but what is your cartridge? There are possibly better options!

its the stock cartridge I believe, an Ortofon OMB 5e. How hard is it to change, as I assume it needs to be aigned, set-up etc? Shoud a pro do it, to do it right? I assume a new stylus is an easier exercise?
