Thanks: Gave 12, Got 23 | Best Ever ?
Oasis have beaten their heroes the Beatles to the title of Best British Album Ever.
Their 10-year-old creation, Definitely Maybe, has topped a staff poll of 50 best albums by Q magazine.
Second on the list is the Fab Four's Revolver, released in 1966, almost 30 years before the Oasis debut.
The poll comes after the Mancunian band, who have always looked to the Beatles for inspiration, signed Zak Starkey, the son of former Beatle Ringo Starr as their latest drummer.
The Gallagher brothers experienced supersonic success after they were discovered, with Definitely Maybe becoming the fastest-selling album of all time.
The band also beat heavyweights such as the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, and Pink Floyd in the survey of the music magazine's staff.
The Rolling Stones' Beggars Banquet comes seventh, The Smiths' The Queen is Dead eighth, Led Zeppelin's Led Zeppelin III came ninth, and Massive Attack's Blue Lines 10th.
The Sex Pistols' Never Mind The ******** Here's the Sex Pistols comes third on the list, followed by Radiohead's OK Computer.
The poll is featured in the July issue of Q which is out on June 1.

| I nearly dropped dead until I saw that it was their STAFF poll - what a load of crap - I wouldnt put that album in my top 500 - surely ANY Beatles album is better than that?
As for my single favourite album of all time - it has never changed since I bought it on vinyl then CD and now SACD Dark Side of The Moon ... Paul

Definitely Maybe is an excellent album and stands up well ten years later. But where will it rank in these type of polls in another 20 / 30 years ?
Actually, this poll is more of a comment on the decline of 'Q' which has been rubbish for about 18 months now.

It just goes to show that music hacks actually know the least about music after almost anyone. Probably even my little sister.
'Led Zep I & II' then 'Are You Experienced?' for me are the best albums ever.

Definitely Maybe is a good album, not spectacular. Oasis have never been the best band in the world or anywhere close - the albums are solid, the songwriting can be at times repetetive, and the musicianship leaves alot to be desired - not to mention the fact that they can't seem to find a good producer. But Oasis have always been about attitude, about catchy songs and most importantly about playing live to the masses. I've seen them live twice and it was superb!
As for the debate on the 'best albums' by each particular band, that could go on and on and on..............

This is the reason why I never buy Q magazine - the people on mags like that are so far up their own backsides.
For Gods sake that nasal gobsh!te can't even sing !

I firmly believe that Original Pirate Material (The Streets) is a great album, as is A Rush of Blood To The Head (Coldplay). Best live album for me is Stop Making Sense by The Talking Heads.
Best Ever album though.... a pointless exercise. Everyone's favourite album changes every year or even day to day. How many albums did you listen to non stop for a month then not return to again? These kind of lists are great for 2 things only:
1. Reminding yourself that you own all of these albums/films/whatever and that you have 'good taste'
2. Generating new ideas for purchases
3. For selling magazines
