Any albums by John Williams (guitarist not jaws composer) or Julian Bream, Rodrigo guitar concerto and vivaldi lute concerto both fantastic for full ensemble stuff. If not I particularly like music written by Villa Loboss (not sure about that spelling) and Fernando Sor.

As above I strongly recommend Rodrigo’s Guitar Concerto de Aranjuez
Take a look at this album here.
Also Recuerdos de la Alhambra – Tarrega is a nice piece.

I notice that you are able to play dvd-audio discs.
Give this a try...... http://www.loaded247.com/index.php?s=D&id=198
Esteban is one of a few guitarists who is endorsed
by Segovia. I have this title and the sound quality and
his playing is exceptional - you won't be dissapointed.
You'll probably get it cheaper if you shop around but
beware of Play as they are actually selling the dts cd
version and not the dvd-audio (apparently the dvd-audio
version sounds better).

Can I ask another question in relation to these CD's......do they have singing on them?
May sound an odd question but I went to Seville recently and watched some Flamenco, and while the guitar was brilliant, the singing was atrocious. It really was bad, I know it is a traditional style, etc and I couldn't understand what the songs were about but my oh my it was bad noise.
So, are the CD's recommended above Flamenco style guitar (maybe ALL Spanish guitar is Flamenco, I don't know)?
I'd have bought some in Seville but couldn't find anything without a screaming woman ruining it.

most of the things listed above are not flamenco as such but do have flamenco influences, non of them to my knowledge have singing on. If you want the don of flamenco playing it's a guy called Paco De Lucia, again I'm not sure of the spelling but I doubt there are many guitarists out there with a similar name.

Nello,
Excellent question, it was not something I had thought of. I certainly was after pure Guitar music, heard some recently at a Spanish wedding and it was absolutely outstanding, so hence my original question.
regards
John

hello there, another dvd-audio with spanish guitar is steve stevens, "flamenco a go go". it's maybe not traditional spanish guitar, but it is really good! definately worth taking a chance on. it's a little bizarre seeing a guy dressed all in black leather with piercings and tattoos playing flamenco, but it's the music that matters, and this bugger can play! try not to be influenced by the fact he played guitar for Billy Idol, everyone has to make the pennies...

This has a good selection on it here.
Also the Rodrigo’s Guitar Concerto de Aranjuez has no singing on it.

I've got some of Joaquin Rodrigo's stuff.
It's OK but if you're not into "classical", you won't like it.
If you prefer more modern stuff, the 1st track on the Cafe Del Mar - Best Of CD is superb.
It's Entre Dos Aguas by Paco De Lucia.
Every time I hear it, I just feel like I'm lying on a beach somewhere warm...

My father use to listen to his music, I do not think he was in to Spanish music though, more jazz. Wasn’t he French??
