All time rock favourites

I generally listen to a wide spectrum of music ranging from the sublime (beethoven ) to the ridiculous (bucks fizz ) but there's an hell of a lot of good music in between.
I'v always liked rock and light metal but never really bothered to buy them until recently when I was given a rock compilation cd which included some classic rock tracks and this has prompted me to start collecting some cd's to redress the balance.
I'd like to know what you consider to be your top 5 rock classics so that I can see if I'v missed anything out.
My all time top 5 is -

AMERICA - MORE THAN A FEELING
BLUE OYSTER CULT - DON'T FEAR THE REAPER
MOTORHEAD - THE ACE OF SPADES
ALICE COOPER - ELECTED
THE WHO - SAY IT AINT SO

That'll be BOSTON doing more than a feeling

Judging by your top 5 songs i think you should try to get your hands on a complimation album called American Heartbeat, its got some of your choices and plenty more like it.

Cool

Bit of a soul man myself, but here are some what I think can be classes as rock (not necessary my all time top but).

Wishing Well - Free
Do it Again - Steely Dan
In A Broken Dream - Python Lee Jackson
Frankenstein - Edgar Winter Group
Witch Queen Of New Orleans – Redbone
Showdown – ELO
Fanfair For the Common Man - Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Horse With No Name – America

And probably my favorite rock (once again if classed as rock)

Dark Side Of The Moon – Pink Floyd.

Is this still available ? I had it about 15 years ago and have since lost it. Would like to replace it as it was a very good compilation of the AOR/MOR classics.

Also worth getting 'The greatest pub jukebox in the world ....ever' - it contains many songs already listed as well as the full version of Black Betty, (though that isn't necessarily a goog thing)

Also worth listening to :-
Mountain - Nantucket Sleighride (used as the theme from Weekend World !!)

AC/DC - anything from 70's + Back in Black

I would have some Lenny Kravitz in there too - Always On The Run is a great rock song.

Raw Power by The Stooges. The loudest album in history, and possibly the best

I have it on tape somewhere, not played it for a while.
I'm not sure it was ever released on CD

I'll find the tape out and list the tracks for you, then if you can't buy it you should be able to download them all.

More air-guitar classics :

Queen - Tie your Mother Down (this band could rock pretty hard).
ZZ Top - Gimme All Your Lovin' (Or 'Sharp Dressed man' - interchangeable !).
Hendrix - Voodoo Chile (Slight Return, naturally !)
TRex - 20th Century Boy (one of the all-time great intro's)
Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water (Cliched class).

* Complete Control by The Clash
* Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who
* Anything from "Rumours" by Fleetwood Mac

I've got that Pub Jukebox album and it's great. Combined with "Greatest Rock Album...Ever" and "Greatest Rock Anthems...Ever" and a substantial collection of punk I don't think I'm missing much that needs bouncing too.

Edit: The Spicy McHaggis Jig by the Dropkick Murphys also deserves a special mention

Thin Lizzy - Live And Dangerous
U.F.O. - Strangers In The Night
Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon (SACD)

Genesis - Trick Of The Tail (wait for the 5.1 if you have SACD / DVD-A)
Iron Maiden - Number Of The Beast
Rainbow - Rising
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

Let There Be Rock or Highway To Hell would have been my preferred AC/DC choices, but I have to agree, BIB is a bloody good album. I have well over 2000 CDs. Can't remember them all!

Back i n black is a mighty fine album, for me though i do think that Highway to Hell just edges it.

My five would be;

AC/DC - Highway to Hell
Led Zeppelin - Whole lot of love
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
Guns & Roses - Paradise City

Infact i need to make it six as i have to include Motorhead - Ace of Spades

re Back in Black - whilst I always prefered Bon Scott on vocals over Brian Johnson (especially live Scott = excellent ; Johnson = excrement) the production quality of BIB rates as one of my all time favourite Rock albums
All time rock favourties is a bit like the old chestnut "who's your favourite guitarist?" there's so many different types of guitarist & likewise rock music
I like mainstream stuff like Lizzy PF early Genesis Dire Straits Led Zep etc but also the likes of Rory Gallagher Peter Gabriel & Yes to name but three ... Paul

Don't worry, I haven't come out of the MOR closet !

I treated it as a one stop shop for music of that particular type, (of which I'm not a true fan - otherwise I'd have bought the individual albums).
I remember it contained stuff by interchangable bands like styx, asia & toto - the usual radio friendly stuff which is the way the thread started.

My current favourite albums are :-
Foo Fighters - One by One (some great songs, love 'come back')
RHCP - californication + by the way
Faith No More - The Real thing (great cover of War Pigs)
Pink Floyd - Animals + Meddle
Tool - Undertow, Aenima, Salival & Lateralus
AD/DC - High Voltage.

Currently getting back into live albums :-
Iron Maiden - Live after Death,
AC/DC - If you want Blood.....
Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Weld

would recommend anybody listen to some of those.
