Keane - Hopes and Fears

Anyone got this yet then? Opinions?

I've been a fan since first seeing them support Lowgold (who were terrible, I was there for Keane anyway) having heard them played and recommended by Steve Lamacq. I've seen them headline a small gig since then, and they were blinding then too.

I'm a bit annoyed at myself at having played the single and my mp3s too much as I'm already having to skip tracks on the album! I'm impressed on the whole though abd would recommend.

I've heard about half the songs on the album, and it all sounds pretty dull and uninteresting. Surely there's only so much you can do with a piano, drums and a singer?

These guys are gonna sell millions, no-doubt about it. You can almost hear housewives all over the country emptying their penny jars onto the work-tops and getting ready for a trip to Virgin Megastores.

Bring on The Charlatans & The Datsuns albums, they'll show these weiners how it's done!

Played the album through 3 times now and I can't say it's really grabbed me. The tunes and everything are there but it just doesn't have a "wow" factor for me.

That said, I wasn't a big fan of the singles so should have I expected more ?

I bought it on Monday. I think that you know what you are going to get when you buy an album like this.

Personally, I rate it a lot. Its a beautiful listen, the kind of album you can just listen two and allow it to wash over you.

There are some gorgeous melodies on there.

IMO of course,

Cap

Got the album yesterday off CD-WOW and I have to say I'm impressed.

Agree with the comment 'you know what you're going to get' - I got exactly what I was expecting, and being a pianist myself I really like it. Very melodic.

I can understand why people think it's a bit housewifey (in a 'Dido' kind of way) - I mean it's not the sort of album you're going to crank up in the motor when you're pinging along the motorway (at just under the legal speed limit of course), but IMO it's good music to sit listening to with a quiet beer in the house!

I went to their signing session in Virgin Megastores. Bought my CD at 00:10 It's an excellent album and they played a really cool set. Not to mention I got 2 of my singles and the album signed too

EDIT: I'm really sad that I can't go and see the Datsuns at the ICA, I arranged to go somewhere that weekend without knowing. I hope the album is as good as the first.

The Keane album is cheap at CD Jungle -- only £6.99 with free shipping.

I've never used them before so I can't comment on service...or lack of.

Not generally my sort of thing(I'm a "rock" fan, although I hate pigeonholes)but this is melancholy at it's best!Only listened to it the once,so I'm expecting the 3 or 4 slower one's to open up to me soon.Without meaning to seem overly antagonistic, the likes of "The Streets" fans are wasting their time;Too much melody here for you

Having been very critical at first, I decided to give Keane a chance and downloaded a few songs. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised, so I used a couple of CD-Wow vouchers I had and ordered it....

....my initial impressions after a few listens are very good. It's not all 'moaning and depressing', alot of the album is very uplifting. You barely notice the lack of guitars. It is 11 pure, simple, well-crafted pop songs. Good stuff
