Whats currently hot in the high resolution formats

I am just getting into these fantastic high res disks.

What is currently hot and what will be released in the near future. I am not so interested in Classical music but more modern rock and electronic. Is their anything that I should look out for?

To give you some idea of my non CD albums here's what I have so far:

Ha, ha, it's Legion of Boom!!

As for a jazz recommendation, then check out Time Out by the Dave Brubeck Quartet on SACD - it sounds sublime .

Re: Whats currently hot in the high resolution formats

Thanks Guys. I already have a few Stan Getz CD's and I like them, so that Stan Getz SACD will be a definite purchase. The others I may have to take a brave pill and see what fate brings.... I got into a few new music areas that way. Stan Getz being one of them.

Has anyone got any comments on the SACD Genesis collections? All my albums are on vinyl, I never bought them on CD and now I cannot play vinyl. Are the SACD versions worth the expense over CD? I kind of miss Genesis now and then,,,when I am feeling old and a beer or two has been drunk.

Not yet, but if Santa is good to me, I will have the 1983-1988 SACD set and will be able to report back in the New Year.

I have the Gabriel years(1970-1975) boxset and like it alot, they aren't the best sound quality from my collection of SACD/DVD-A(a little on the bright side)but they're a big step up from my original CD purchase of Lamb Lies Down that's for sure, mulit-channel is done very nicely IMO, not overdone, just nice.

From what I understand the other 2 boxsets are actually a bit worst in SQ, perhaps as this was the last release of the sets the it was improved slightly.

As you like electronic, you might want to try Amon Tobin: The Splinter Cell Chaos Theory soundtrack, has been on my "to buy" list for ages but haven't got around to purchasing it yet. Also, one I did just order which I think should be pretty great & a bit of a bargain at under £6 is Todd Rundgren: Liars

If you can hunt down the Talking Heads Brick(box set, think it was a US only release, although individually all the albums were released on DVD-A here also) then that's highly recommended, fantastic sound and lovely playful suround

There are so many to recommend, but are you aware of Kitaro? There are three SACDs available, and one DVD-A. I own all of these, and find them to be pretty amazing. I've never been very good at understanding the naming the various genre, but Kitaro's music is often described as "New Age". To me, that conjures up images of long hair, kaftans, joss sticks and open toed sandals! It would sometimes appear that a particular religious (budhist) tone is attributed to Kitaro's music, but that is totally lost on me. If you like Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Andreas Vollenweider - any of these, I could imagine that this music might appeal.

Obviously, so much depends on personal taste as far as any music goes, which doesn't make recommending any easier. I'm not very knowledgeable with regard to classical/orchestral music, but know so far what I like from the discs I have.

I would recommend the Silverline "Night in ......" series, which although are not hi-res (they are DVD-Vs), and are being advertised on Amazon as DVD Audios, the four discs in this series offer a mixed selection of small orchestral/classical pieces. They have 2 audio options, a Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1. If you can get hold of these for £8 or less, I'd consider them good value. I prefer the sound of the DTS option over the DD, and notice that they are more evenly mixed than my DVD-As of the same genre. By this, I mean that the music is more evenly spread over all speakers, rather than (let's say) 80& front speaker loaded as many of my DVD-As are.

On to a genuine DVD-A recommendation, if you can find it. Try Buena Vista Social Club. Not sure how you'd define this sort of music, but it's beautifully recorded.
