What are you fave bands/singers?

Oooooooooohhhhh... quite a few there. No female ones for me of course. I'm a grunge and me likes my music that way!

Linkin Park
Offspring
Tenacious D - Meh
Greenday
Blink 182
BUSTED

No rappers for me : Hate em...

Also add your fave songs by those bands if you really want.

Linkin Park - Numb, Faint
Offspring - Hit that
Tenacious D - Tribute
Greenday - Waiting
Blink 182 - Feeling This
BUSTED - Air Hostess and Sleeping With The Light On

I just hope my Dad won't reply to this thread cos he'll say Elvis and Frank Sinatra and all that Grandad's rubbish. Soz if I offended anyone here...

BUSTED will win Taz. Please don't tell me your an Elvis fan? I'm not a hardcore fan I just like em cos my Auntie bought us tickets to a concert in March. I'm a hardcore Linkin Park fan. My Dad says they're rubbish cos apparently all they do is scream. Whatever.

EDIT - A Little Less Conversation? *shudders* I get enough of Elvis from my Dad and Nan... Lemme see. What about... Offspring - Hit that vs Elvis? The blue dude from the Hit That video is the kewlest character I have ever seen! Well, all except Knuckles from Sonic

The black album would be a good first Metalica album.

As for your aunty, get her told no more boy bands that pretend to play instruments

Here some good band for you to give a listen:

Pink Floyd (All ready stated but amazing)
Rage Against The Machine
The Strokes
The Foo Fighters
Underworld
Kings Of Leon
The Doors

Loads more but aboves a good mix of different styles of old and new

I would get the Dark Side Of The Moon album first and if you like it they have many more albums available.

Might take a good few listens before you get into the floyd vibe, very different to what your currently listening to

If you're into punk mate, you can't miss out 'The Clash'.

Sublime music. They virtually invented punk (I know the Ramones and Pistols were around before, but they didn't contribute as much and bring it to as wide an audience)

Metallica
Linkin Park
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Goldfrapp
Portishead
Radiohead
Garbage
Dido
Marilyn Manson
Skunk Anansie

And I used to really like the following but haven't really listened to them for a while now:

Erasure
Queen

I'm quite suprised that Linkin Park, Blink 182 and Busted have been labelled as 'grunge' in this list!

Whatever happened to Nirvana, Mudhoney, Fudge Tunnel, Lizard, Hole, L7 etc?

There's not a bit of grunge in your list, as far as I can tell. But then I guess every other American band is being labelled 'punk' at the moment...

Agree with Rhoamish, you're listening to punk that's been spoon-fed to you.

Look out for:
The Clash
The Ramones
Crackout
Guns 'n' Roses
The Get Up Kids

and anything that The Offspring have done since Smash is mediocre at best.

We could all go on about music though. There's plenty of threads about it!

For me, Deep Purple.

More than 100m albums sold, 30 years of history.

And - shock horror - they can play their own instruments....

Led Zep run a close second.

More 'modern' bands that find favour with me include Radiohead, Coldplay (no, really !).

Blink 182 and Linkin Park are categorically NOT grunge!

Grunge is the entirely different sound from the early 90's.

Grunge bands include (as mentioned above):
Nirvana
Soundgarden
Smashing Pumpkins

the closest you might find today is Audioslave (Chris Cornell who sings was the singer for Soundgarden).

Grunge is dead. There is no grunge being made anymore. Linkin Park are nu-metal (mainstream pop rubbish), and Busted are just pop music. Not a decent rock track between them.

But:

Radiohead
Sevendust
Life Of Agony
Led Zeppelin
Raging Speedhorn
Will Haven
Dillinger Escape Plan
Amen
Vision Of Disorder
Rage Against The Machine
Pearl Jam
Rival Schools
Keith Caputo
Brendan Benson
Anyone
Sikth
At The Drive-in
BRMC
Muse
Nostromo

Think that covers my bands... Check them out. They **** on Linkin Park and all that other toss.

Grunge ??

"touch me Im sick" thats grunge.

Apply that like a template to any band, if the shoe fits then its grunge.

I've avioded posting here as I've got a 14 year old brother myself (which is how old I_like_it_cube is, IIRC) so I know how hard it is to try and let them know you know more about music than them TBH, you've pretty much covered all the bands you like cube, most of the stuff here will take time and effort to get into, and your mates probably won't like it, but in the end you'll get a hell of a lot more enjoyment out of Rival Schools' "United by Fate" than you will out of The Offspring's "Conspiracy of One" - most of these chaps know what they're on about and, unfortunatly, have a few years on you (and me )

Ahh! Superfuzz Bigmuff! One of my most treasured EPs.

Sonic Youth got lumped in with Grunge for a while, but I didn't entirely understand why. I guess Dirty is grungy in places, as is Goo, but most of their stuff isn't.

Lots of bands got lumped as grunge, in the same way as punk (the Police were considered to be punk at one time ).

At the risk of a flaming Pearl Jam do not fit into the grunge category, they are more manufactured supergroup and dont fit with the grunge philosophy..................that was Kurt Cobains angle and I have to agree with his conclusion.

For the records, I'm 15 NOT 14. 16 in like 7 months... Anyway, I'll try out Sonic Youth but I'd rather stick to some bands that I have in mind atm. I'll also try out Puddle of Mudd.
