Kraftwerk - The Catalogue [Box set]

Thinking of ordering Kraftwerk - The Catalogue [Box set] I am wondering if the re-mastered cds are worth it, better than the old version cds, has anybody got any of the re-mastered cds if so, are they better, all opinions welcome as I decide weather to click the buy button@amazon.

I don't consider myself to be a massive fan but what I've heard sounds great, then again the cd's always did!

Well, I have hopefully treated myself and ordered both the UK Catalogue and the German Katalog releases from the respective Amazon sites. We shall see. Formative years, formative music

Re: Kraftwerk - The Catalogue [Box set]

I will be interested in this as well. Having got most of the stuff on vinyl and CD just not sure if it's worth getting the remastered versions.

But must say maybe getting the German versions is the way to go..

History of Kraut rock on BBC4 I thought was excellent and has added a few albums to my wish list.

Re: Kraftwerk - The Catalogue [Box set]

Probably the language that the lyrics are sung in, though I like the way the English lyrics are sung with a German lilt sort of adds to the charm.

Re: Kraftwerk - The Catalogue [Box set]

You might find that Autobahn will sound pretty ordinary what ever release you have.
Old analogue synths, don't know if re touching them will enhance or detract, great album, made me get into the real stuff like Tangerine Dream, Mike Old Field, Pink Floyd, etc etc.
All good fun, and mesmerising music..
Would be interested in feed back if and when you get it Curly, might take a dab at it myself..
Bahn bahn bahn da Autobahn, what the hell were they singin??
Freeway way the free free way??
Oh I have Robots, never really got into it, would they have been singin, "Da Bot bot bot da Autobot..."?

will probably order on Monday now, see what it costs next day or maybe take out the Amazon prime option as I use Amazon for most of my CDs

I remember a Kraftwerk documentary that was on Radio 1...years ago now, it said at the time Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider were Beach Boy fans and the "Wir fahr'n fahr'n fahr'n auf der Autobahn" lyric was there nod to the Beach Boys..I think that's how I remember it, it's either that or I made it up....

Re: Kraftwerk - The Catalogue [Box set]

There was an interview with one of the members in last month's "Mojo" magazine (which was kind of interesting), but I mainly bought it for the free CD on the cover which had an edited version of "The Robots" ("The Mix" version).

I compared the two tracks back to back - this new version versus my 1991 CD issue - and the difference was very apparent: much more bottom end, better clarity, better separation, even the vocals sounded more forward and less muffled.

I won't be buying the whole boxset, but I will be cherrypicking the individual CD's I think.

Re: Kraftwerk - The Catalogue [Box set]

Because of the analog synth issue mentioned above I prefer my Kraftwerk on vinyl.

Re: Kraftwerk - The Catalogue [Box set]

pulled the trigger and ordered the English version box set.... why do I know that at some point I'll get the German version

I still remember buying the 7" single vinyl version of Autobahn....Nothing they have done has come close to the first time I heard that edited single version...expect maybe Tour de France.

Re: Kraftwerk - The Catalogue [Box set]

better bottom end sounds interesting.

I've owned a load of their LP's in the past but lost interested as they sounded so dated. Interested to hear what you guys think.

I am adding...and subtracting.

You'd think for sixty odd quid you could get English and German versions included.

Re: Kraftwerk - The Catalogue [Box set]

I am tempted by these remasters.

Have to love Amazon reviews. Someone compares the sound quality of the original CDs and the remasters on Spotify.

Delivered yesterday, nice set in a 12" box, CDs in nice cardboard sleeves, enlarged 12" booklets in a nice sturdy cover, so far so good, not had a chance to listen to them all, but going through them in order. I am listening to them through my Cambridge Audio 740c CD player, Onkyo amp (set to direct) and Mordaunt Short 916i's (bi-wired), I mention the equipment in case that may have a baring on the sound output, on first listen to the first 3 CDs the re-masters do sound a bit different, sort of cleaner, brighter, hard to put my finger on it maybe a bit too polished could be that stuff like Autobahn I had only heard on vinyl before, maybe re-mastering has taken out any imperfections you can get on vinyl and though still good tunes maybe are the worse for it, that's not to say they are bad, far from it... I'll stop rambling and listen to the rest now, on what I have heard I would still recommend the box set.

Curly

P.S. does it show that I don't write many reviews?
