Genesis The Movie Box

Hot on the heels of the Live Box Set is The Movie Box.

The Movie Box

Again I'm sure many fans will be critical of the cash-in aspects, but I'll look forward to the 5.1 Three Sides Live on DVD for the first time, and especially the 1984 Mama Tour.

I've a feeling this will be it? I hope so, my wallet can't stand much more.

Re: Genesis The Movie Box

So far, I've only bought in to one of these box sets - the 1976 to 1981 box. I think the whole project is excellent and Nick Davis has done some outstanding work with the material. Naturally, the fanboys who make up the official and unofficial Genesis forums just don't get it at all and every release is accompanied by their whinging of "why no extra tracks?" No matter; Genesis are dragging their collected works, both aural and visual, kicking and screaming into this century and I, for one, am mightily glad about it.

This movie box set will have to wait a while, though, as I promised myself I'd get these sets in the order they've been released. So, maybe this Christmas I'll be dancing like a pillock to Invisible Touch in 5.1 or whigging out to Second Home By The Sea in glorious surround-sound. If I've been a really good boy.

The '83-'98 box set is excellent too, with the likes of Home By The Sea jaw-dropping in its power and majesty. I totally agree with your sentiment - I never thought I'd be able to buy these albums in such high quality.

I've bought 3 of the 4 box sets (not a fan of Gabriel's vocals - sacrilegious I know ) so far and if the movie box is included that will be over £250 spent in all. So, not cheap - but worth it.

Re: Genesis The Movie Box

Totally worth it, I agree. I'll always keep hold of the remasters that were done in the mid-nineties, as they were a faithful reproduction of the mixes that I gew up with back in the days of vinyl, but these new mixes really shine.

As for Gabriel, well I guess it depends on the company you're in as to whether criticism of his singing is sacriligeous. Personally, I always felt he was way overrated by the Genesis faithful and that Collins was easily the more natural of the two when it came to vocals. I do like the early stuff, though, more for the music, but my heart has always belonged to the three-man lineup.
