Thanks: Gave 2,444, Got 927 | Problems with your THE TIMES - REM LIVE IN DUBLIN download? Here's the cure!
Hi,
If you buy today's THE TIMES paper (Saturday 10th Oct), you'll find a free iTunes download card code in the magazine supplement, for a 10-track live-album from REM.
The problem is, the instructions are wrong.
To download your album, do the following:
1) Make sure you have a working iTunes programme, and valid iTunes account.
2) Load uo your web-browser, and go to: http://www.itunes.co.uk/thetimes and NOT http://www.itunes.com!
3) Your iTunes programme should then load, and take you automatically to a page in iTunes that will ask you for your Redeem Code. Enter the code on the iTunes card that came in the paper, and then the album will download in iTunes automatically!
Apologies if this is in the wrong section of the forum.

Well, it doesn't work for me. Just get to itunes page inviting me to download their software again. Can't find any reference on their site to The Times or a free REM download.
Ideas?

type the link as above directly into your browser, not into Google. Then Itunes opens and you can type in the download code.

Re-phrase my post above!
It works if you post the link into your browser, it doesn't work if you paste the link into Google.

OK - so I paste your link directly into my browser. In Firefox I get a page inviting me to download the itunes software that I already have. In Explorer I get an itunes page devoted to the gospel band called The Times.
Does it make a difference that I'm not actually registered with itunes?
Can't see why it should. Where does the page inviting you to insert your code come in. I've searched the itunes site and can't find it anywhere.

Ok, I agree, you should always follow the instructions to the letter, although as Pooch suggested originally, the instructions may be wrong. So I have registered with the Apple itunes store UK and downloaded the latest Itune softwear and...guess what.
Makes absolutely no difference at all. Still not getting to any page which mentions an REM free download or gives the opportunity to insert the code.
Has anyone out there actually managed this download?

Hi,
Wow! I can't believe my post that was intended to aid/help so many of you, seems to have caused more problems.
Just to clarify:
1) You must have iTunes on your computer already, and make sure you have it updated to the latest version.
2) You must have a valid, working and operational iTunes account. If you don't, the offer in THE TIMES will not work!
3) Once you have both, close iTunes on your computer, and open-up your usual internet browsing software.
4) Enter the iTunes.co.uk weblink, shown in my original post, and NOT the iTunes.com link shown on the back of the REM iTunes card.
5) Once you enter the address, iTunes should automatically open for you, and open up a page in iTunes itself, asking you for your REM Redemption Code - the one shown on the iTunes card with THE TIMES paper.
6) Enter the code, exactly as printed on the card, and then - if it works successfully - iTunes should automatically start downloading the entire 10-track album for you.
Apologies if these instructions were not clear enough originally.
Pooch

Has anyone out there actually managed this download? | 1) The instructions may only be wrong on some batches of the REM/iTunes cards. On mine, it says go to iTunes.com/the times, which is wrong, and takes you to a page about a band called "The Time". However if you modify that address, and instead go to iTunes.co.uk/thetimes, then the offer does work - or at least it did for me.
2) In answer to your second question, yes, I did manage to download the album without any fuss or bother, once I made the small, web-address link change, as mentioned in my instructions (namely, changing the .com extension in the addy to .co.uk instead! )
