Which Rolling Stones & Johnny Cash CD's to buy
Being in my 20's these two artists were obviously not in my time. I've read all sorts but I was wondering which CD's people think I should be buying.
I currently have Exile on Main Street and The Legendary Johnny Cash. I don't really want to buy too many compilation CD's and find I'm 'doubling up', if that makes sense. On the flip side, being such huge popular artists spanning decades, the choice out there is a bit confusing.
I know I could, er, 'acquire' the media through other means but I prefer owning original CD's.
Can anyone, whom have many if not most LP's available by these two artists, make some recommendations please?

Re: Which Rolling Stones & Johnny Cash CD's to buy
Never really into Johnny Cash at all , but for the stones , the classic albums were all released prior to Exile on main St. , Exile being their last really great album , ( IMO of course )
Beggars Banquet
Let it Bleed
Sticky Fingers
Its only rock and roll
All of these are well worth a listen.
Aftermath is an early album well worth having , and Black and Blue is not a bad " post exile " Album.
Since then , the stones have had some " moments" , such as " Waiting on a friend , Undercover of the night , Start me up , and so on , but no truly great albums , again , my opinion of course.

For Johnny Cash, Folsom Prison and San Quentin are classic and give a good overview of his output.

You can also get the complete Sun Masters for about £10 now, that's well worth a punt:

Cash live at San Quentin is a classic. Live and raw.

Can't beat Sticky Fingers, Let it Bleed and Beggars Banquet Post Exile then Some Girls is good. The post Exile compilation Jump Back is a good place to start (candidate for worst cover ever though). The London Years is a great early years compilation.

For Johnny Cash start with the Essential Johnny Cash. Great double cd.

Re: Which Rolling Stones & Johnny Cash CD's to buy
If you really want to splash the cash on Cash then get Unearthed,a 5 disc retrospective of his career on American Recordings, including material recorded right up to his death.

Re: Which Rolling Stones & Johnny Cash CD's to buy
Andy pretty much nailed the Stones suggestions.
If you are wanting a career spanning overview of the Stones then 40 licks might be worth considering as it gives a decent overview so anyone wanting to get familiar with their music

Defintely. Beautifully recorded and so much feeling and emotion coming across from a man that new his time was limited.

Re: Which Rolling Stones & Johnny Cash CD's to buy
I'd start with 40 licks and Johnny Cash: The legend, or perhaps The Essential Johnny Cash. Cash has some excellent gospel material.
