Music to make speakers shine

Hi All

Having recently upgraded my speakers to Monitor Audio (looking to replace my amp to a Denon AVR-2310 in the next few months) I am now beginning to appreciate music in a totally different way.

The music is now much more layered and details. For example, I was listening to Jamie T's new album King's and Queen's the other evening and I could hear (and feel) each chord and the fret board was alive in my room!

I've traditionally been bought up on Hip-Hop, dance, reggae, chilled beats etc but the older I get the more I'm appreciating acoustic and live music.

What I would love is for some recommendations of some "half way house" music that will provide some intelligent rifts and beats accompanied by some great acoustics and vocals. The kind of music to unwind to with friends that doesn't put you to sleep!

I've probably not been very clear on what I want but then if I’m too specific I’ll narrow the suggestions down too much which I don't want as the more the merrier!

Thanks all

P.S. I did check the stickey, got to page 8 and it was taking so long to check each post I'm sure to get rumbled by my boss! Back to work...

Re: Music to make speakers shine

Skin and Bones by the foo fighters sounds truelly amazing, you'll love it trust me! the sound is something else

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Skin-Bones-F...3901757&sr=8-2

secret world live by peter gabriel is also one of the best albums ive ever heard, live or not.

these 2 are a must for anyone who likes live music no matter what your tastes

if you want fantastically produced music check out talk by the band yes, may not be to your tastes but you'll appreciate the production instantly.

all 3 of these albums sound top notch through a good set up

Have you heard of Red Snapper? All their albums are superb IMO, especially Making Bones which is possibly my favourite for a speaker workout, although Our Aim is to Satisfy is a close second, mind you Prince Blimey is also superb! oh... they all are

If you haven't listened to them then could be right up your street, nice accoustic jazz sound fused with hiphop, drum n bass and various vocalists(including the likes of Beth Orton, MC Det and more) always with some beatiful mellow numbers thrown in that send shivers down my spine. Really do need good speakers to appreciate them fully, can almost get that live sound, almost

Re: Music to make speakers shine

first song i tested my new speakers on was this one....

YouTube - Danny Tenaglia - Music Is The Answer

the quality of this one isn't great on you tube. i had the cd single on loud and it sounded sweet. i know its not acoustic but you did mention dance so though it was worth a shout.

Re: Music to make speakers shine

Have a listen to some Kings of Convenience: Scandinavian acoustic folky stuff, but don't let that put you off, their roots were in electronica! Their 1st album was "Quiet is the New Loud", and there is a remix album out called "Versus" which should give you the beats element you're looking for and let your speakers go for it.

Remixes are by Royksopp, Fourtet, Andy Votel, Riton, Ladytron, among others. Just listening to it now, very good!

Enjoy!

Tetlee, this sounds like the money shot, I'll shall certainly be checking them out as I was only saying to my better half that we need to add to the music collections (especially as I've just spent a small fortune on my new AVR!

EDIT: Just ordered a used copy of Making Bones off of Amazon for £2.32 delivered, I mean come on, that's just silly money! :D

Skin & Bones is great. The sound quality on the DVD version is fantastic & the performance is 2 hours long. Ripped the audio onto a couple of cd's as I had to have it in the car as well.

As for other music to make your speakers shine I find Elbow's Asleep In The Back is also top notch.

Fantastic price! will be interested to hear your opinion of it. Oh, and if you like that, something else you might like is Bajofondo(Supervielle being my favourite album of theirs, not sure if it is easy to find in this country though), they're an Argetine band, electronic tango mixed with drum 'n bass, hiphop and downtempo, fantastic sounding album that can make any speakers sound great(well, within reason).

Tetlee...Loving Redsnapper, just as you described it. The instruments sound so detailed and there's so funky off beat tunes with really jazzy bass lines that I just want to crank up..one day when I have my detached house I'll be able to do so, but even at moderate listening levels it's still excellent. Recommended to anyone who might choose to read this .
