For me it has to be Machine Head with 'The Blackening'.
Absolutely incredibly and a couple of years later I still listen to it all the time. Especially Halo which I can't get enough of.

Dear friends... what are your standout tracks and why did you nominate your albums?

It is so hard to say what is the best metal album, everyone has their personal preferences. I have listed mine in some sort of rough sub-genre category...
Hard Rock : AC/DC - Back in Black
Thrash metal : Megadeth - Rust in Peace
Death metal : Morbid Angel - Covenant
Black metal : Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Grindcore : Carcass - Necroticism Descanting the Insalubrious
Heavy-metal : Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind
Alternative (including nu-metal, grunge, industrial etc..) : Nirvana - Nevermind
The last time this question was posed I thought 'What exactly makes an album the best ever?'
I came to the conclusion that it is one where every time you listen to it there is not one track you would skip to listen to another.
That discounted, for me, Back in Black, Appetite For Destruction,And Justice For All and Number of the Beast, all of which were contenders.
I was left with three that I cannot split, Metallica - Master of Puppets, Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and, contravertial, Slipknot - Vol 3: (The Subliminal Verses)

After seeing Evanesence at Donington in 2007 I would say yes. Great set played out against some very aggressive heckling. She has an excellent live voice.

i guess there are many sub genres of metal so i will list a few of my faves.
iron maiden - seventh son of a seventh son
nine inch nails - the downward spiral
disturbed - indestructible
marilyn manson - lest we forget (bit of a cheat that one condsidering it is a greatest hits but hey ho)
push come to shove nine inch nails or iron maiden but couldnt really narrow it down so that will have to do.
