Muse:The resistance; your thoughts?

I thought it was bloody brilliant

Imo, the eastern influences are really starting to shine through, and I'm picking up a queen-esque feel to some of the songs...
And maybe a bit prog/Genesis...

Definatly going to buy it when it is released

But what do you guys think?

Re: Muse:The resistance; your thoughts?

For me the standout track is 'Unnatural Selection'. A real rocker with some real heavy riffs at the end. If you go to the bbc iplayer and search for Zane Lowe's muse night and goto about the 2hr 39min mark there is a live version from last weekends 'Seaside Rendezvous'.

I'm liking the rest of the album too. 'Resistance and MK Ultra are a couple of my favs and the 3 part symphony 'Exogenesis' is a fantastic composition.

Cant wait til November to see them at the NIA and the O2 Arena.

Re: Muse:The resistance; your thoughts?

Quite enjoyed the new album but felt that some songs sound like they are going to climax into something amazing that never comes. Would have liked a few more rockers, but Im sure it will grow on me.
Im seeing them in Liverpool in Nov - I have always been surprised at how much of the non-rocking stuff they play live as it always comes across as a little underwhelming even though I love the songs on CD.

They've definitely sounded prog to me since OOS, with strong hints of Queen ... but very very Queenesque with this one (more Brian Mayishness than before)

Loving most of it.

Re: Muse:The resistance; your thoughts?

i wouldn't know as i pre-orderedthis for my girlfriend along with the new megadeth album for me with play.com and they are not here on release day.
Last time i use play.com for pre-orders.
Rang and they said they do not garantee, so i have to wait till 2moro or wednesday.. what a joke

To think i was gonna pre-order 2 ps3 games, a blu-ray and another album soon aswell
Oh well i guess Game and amazon will get my business now.

I did have a quick listen to the muse album on theguardian website and thought it was ok except the last 3 songs which where boring to me.

Re: Muse:The resistance; your thoughts?

Hmv delivered mine on saturday which was a nice suprise.

Only had one listen so far but was extremely impressed with it could possible be their best album for me (always thought origin of symmetry was previously). Will give it a few more listens though.

Not impressed with the horrible cardboard packaging though which, like the last coldplay album, is wider than a normal cd and so messes up my cd stacks.

Do what I do: Cheat
Once I've paid for it, I see nothing morally wrong with downloading a scene-rip until it arrives...

Mine still hasn't arrived, btw...

Sodding Amazon didn't post mine until this morning, I'll be lucky if I get it Wednesday.

I ordered it 3months ago and they don't post it until release date, I am not happy .

Re: Muse:The resistance; your thoughts?

You guys do know there has been a postal strike in some areas right?
Depending in which depot your stuff is being sorted at will determine if your stuff has been delayed. Im still waiting for stuff from Amazon and Play that was posted early last week. BT warned me about the strike last week as they are sending me a home hub.

Re: Muse:The resistance; your thoughts?

I'm not sure what to think so far. It is another Muse album, but it's not as good as previous ones. There are some excellent tracks I loved Uprising the first time I heard it, and United States of Eurasia, Unnatural Selection and MK Ultra are all great. But the R&B stuff? The pretentious nonsense of Exogenesis? The chorus of Resistance? Guiding Light? Am really not sure. Maybe it will grown on me.

Re: Muse:The resistance; your thoughts?

I'm not really sure what I think of it.
Once I got past the Dr Who theme, Blondie, Alvin Stardust, Ultravox and Queen I was left feeling as though it is a parody of Muse rather than the band itself.

There are some great bits that just made me smile and think "this is a really good enjoyable album", and others which made me laugh.

It is overblown and bombastic, and that's what I like about Muse, but this time (admittedly after just the 2 plays) I think they have gone for a little too much 'campness' and theatre.

I'm still undecided.

Re: Muse:The resistance; your thoughts?

After a quick listen yesterday I've got to say I am not impressed, seems to be way too many 80s type references in there from Queen, Ultravox, the Treasure Hunt theme!! (eek), Doctorin the Tardis!! Saying that i wasn't overly impressed by their last effort that everyone else seemed to love so what do I know?!

I just can't get into this album. Not enough rock in there for me. Didn't get into their last album either but love the first two.

Re: Muse:The resistance; your thoughts?

I've now listened to it about 10 times and it's definately a grower.

I was lucky enough to see them on the Saturday night in Teignmouth and the new tracks do sound much better live in my opinion.

I also managed to get the ltd box set with the 5.1 DVD and the 3 part symphony sounds amazing up loud.

I envy you, but not £50 worth of envy...

Any news on a HAARP-esque teignmouth set?

Oh my god. As of yesterday i had only listened to the first 2 tracks. Then i read your post and thought "i cant even remember what the treasure hunt theme went like!" Having just listened to a bit more, and reaching track 7 not only did i remember how treasure hunt theme went but i also know exactly what you mean! lol

So far i am liking this album alot. Prefer it to the last album overall. I can bear the references on this album but the last album (Black Holes and Revelations) had a few songs that sounded too much like other songs by other artists which put me off.

To me, this album is more like Absolution which is my fave Muse album.

Re: Muse:The resistance; your thoughts?

got the album monday and ive only just got round to giving it a listen.

i think its ok, its not rock enough for my taste and the only track that stood out was unatural selection. it did sound like it had a lot of influences in there and even sounded a little like some of their other tracks from other albums but i wouldnt say its a bad album. i think theyre running a little short on ideas if im honest but i dont think this album is 'filler' by a long chalk.

i'd rather have absolution anyday of the week. its their best album by far for me, tho theres some sublime stuff on other albums, especially oos.
