The Darkness xmas song

I've heared Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) on the
radio a few times this week and I must say what a brilliant
xmas tune it is! With the Brian May-esqe opening and Justin's
excellent vocals, I think this is going to become yet another
xmas classic

Is Goddamn awful.

I told everyone they were just a second rate Slade, but no one listened. Now do you see?

I've credited them with making shallow but fun music that other people like, but I'm sorry, this song is just plain crap. Through and through lacking of any merit whatsoever.

All copies should be burned and the ashes sent into the sun.

Your nearly right, but they're a 3rd rate SLADE, Oasis are the second rate one!

I think it's pretty good. I'm a big fan of The Darkness. I don't see any similarity with Slade at all.

No. Queen were an awesome band. The Darkness don't merit the opportunity to lick the sweat from the armpit of Queen's achievements.

I didn't say they sounded like Slade, but they're the same sort of band. Only difference being that Slade were OK.

I wasn't in any way comparing The Darkness to Queen apart
from the guitar riff sounding similar to some of Brian May's work.
I was only replying to those who did compare them with the likes
of Queen and Slade.
I do like the song though. It's a good, fun xmas record and that's
all it is. It won't win any awards but that doesn't mean that it's,
as some have said, terrible. It's far better than some of the other
rubbish that have been released as xmas records.
Will it have me rushing out to buy their album? No.
I wasn't keen on their last single so I don't feel the urge to go and buy their cd.
As for your comment about them and Queen's armpits, lol, I haven't heared anymore of their songs to say if they sound similar enough. I hope not though as they do seem to be getting
a lot of praise from some quarter's and sounding like other bands
wouldn't make their music very original, would it.

The darkness album is well worth having. Its fun!!! In a world where people give out crap like "dance is the most important new musical revolution since the renaissance" and "Rap is a new neo-political street cultural statement", hell we need some fun!!!

the darkness are a long way frm the world's most original band, kind of a cross between ac/dc and aerosmith. i could never nderstand where the queen comparisons came from, but the christmas single is a total queen pastiche. i must admit, while i hated it the first time i heard it, it is growing on me( no pun intended ). definately not agreat song, but surely a miilion times better than pop idol or westlife or whatever else we are told we should buy...

Queen did, do and always will, suck and blow. At the same time.

to me they are westlife and pop idol rolled into one.
give them some hair and guitars and people start thinking they are credible.
a laughable insult

I guess that the only difference between The Darkness and Westlife and Pop Idol is that the Darkness play their own instruments. And write their own songs. And make good, listenable music. And have a huge stage presence. And are rock, rather than pop.

Oh hang on, that's 5 differences...

I'm glad I'm not the only person who didn't like Queen. I never got them at all: always did my head in that so many people thought they were good.

If you say so. After listening to your enlightened argument, I can honestly say that this ain't no Road To Damascus moment.

Fair do's, it's all opinion, but I never found Queen anything other than predictable, boring pomp rock with a touch of campesque, unfunny jokes. Like Spinal Tap with out the laughs or wicked solos. And just 'cause Brian May made his own guitar doesn't make him good. Appreciate you're not saying this, but if some other no nothing musical retard comes up with "yeah, well, he built it himself, dinnee?" I'll probably let out a little scream. Or destroy them using my laser eyes. Depending on my mood.

His homemade guitar plugged into a homemade treble-booster pedal which plugged into a homemade amplifier, which together made the most unique sounds in rock guitar history. Sounds and tones that are often copied but to this day have never been equalled

To me, the guitar sounds home-made. It's a horrible, hollow sound, which you'd expect if you made it from chopping up a sideboard. Unique isn't always good.

In fact, there is only one guitar sound worse than Brian's: Hank Marvin's.

Excellent!

Did she do her own hair, like Brian May does?
