DVD-A V's 5.1

Wonder if you can help with a problem with my JVC NA77 DVD / DVD Audio Player and my JVC 8032 AV Receiver. When I play a DVD Audio disc the receiver does not auto detect the Dolby Digital format. I have checked the settings on the NA77 and it would appear to be correct and since the receiver autodetects DVD Videos with dolby digital OK then I can assume that the settings in the receiver are good. Any clues? Incidentally the receiver is connected to the DVD player using the optical lead and the NA77 does display the DVD Audio LED at the front of the display telling me that it has detected the disc format correctly.

Crispy XUK is right. If you have a dvd-audio player then it will
automatically choose the dvd-a hi-res track.
Dolby digital and dts are not hi-res so therefore don't sound as
good as the dvd-a track.
Here's a link explaining what dvd-a is.......

To get the hi-res track, you will also have to connect your
dvd player to your receiver using phono leads for each of the
six channels - the optical lead (or coax) won't do.

Thanks for the replies, I'll try the phono setup and see how it goes. I'm suprised you need to go back to the phono outputs to get the multichannel, I assumed that these were analogue and for outputing to receivers with no digital input.

Digital optical and digital coax can't transport all the information
contained in the dvd-audio mlp track, so the players' DAC (digital to analogue convertor) will have to convert the signal into six analogue channels. Therefore, you must use the analogue outputs on your player to benefit from the dvd-audio soundtrack.
