Thanks: Gave 7, Got 36 | Is anyone here a Yello fan?
I have been a fan of Yello ever since I first heard "Oh Yeah" in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Many people in the US aren't familiar with them, are any of you guys here fans?

Their first 4 albums are essential, Solid Pleasure, Claro Que Si!, You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess and Stella
Its generally regarded that Stella is their best album, but I disagree, I think the best starting to end point you could make would be (in order)
Claro Que Si!
Solid Pleasure
Stella
You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess
Its hard to believe that Solid Pleasure is 30 years old, made in 1979, and it is a peerless piece of work.
Thats the best thing about Yello, their is no point of reference with their music. Just listen to Bimbo on Solid Pleasure, nothing else like it, and the production is amazing.
From "One Second" onwards, they favoured the drum machine sound and heavy electric percussion which makes them sound too dated even for our current 80's revival, and the absence of those elements make the first 4 albums sound relevant and fresh still (they used a real drummer, Beat Ash for some of them)

My personal favorite album is Baby, with Flag 2nd, and One Second in third. They totally changed their signature sound on Zebra (with only Fat Cry and Poom Shanka staying in the same vein). But as different as Zebra is from their previous releases, it was Pocket Universe where they really changed.
But even after the radical shift in style, I still really enjoy Pocket Universe, as I do all of their releases after that. They changed with the times, but are still very much Yello. Their type of music is definitely all their own, and as different as many of their newer releases are, they're still just as addictive as ever.
I am really looking forward to their newest release, I hope we see it this year.
Another of their releases that is very hard to find, is one that they did for Audi. A steel cased limited edition that was given to owners of the Audi A5. I have been searching high and low for this CD and have yet to find one to buy.

I am sucker for their singles on yellow vinyl.
Oh Yeah -
My albums/singles.
No sign of the new album and no name for it yet. Last I heard was there was going to be track called You better Hide with guest singer Heidi Happy. | Holy crap!! And I thought I was a collector! That my friend is one serious Yello collection! I am drooling.
There are so many that you own that I do not have. Many of which were never released on CD. Wow, I'm impressed (and jealous) of your collection. Thanks for sharing.

Most of it came from ebay. Unfortunately, most of yello vinyl worth getting has disappeared from it now.
Once I bidded on a few times but never got is the yellow vinyl of On Track (from Pocket Universe). It is a 4 vinyl set and both times it went over the £40 I bidded. I believe it was only released in Germany. My Pocket Universe came from Germany too and the same seller had this On Track but obviously didn't get both. PU ended up at £30 inc postage from Germany. That is the most I have paid for something by Yello.
The cheapest was The Race 12" single at just 1p (plus 1.75p postage). I got the Yello music videos on DVD for just 75p. Some of them are really strange.
Apart from that Bimbo and the 3D picture disc of "I Love You". I have stuck with just 12" and stayed away from 7" singles.

Spooky !
I was about to start exactly the same thread !
Yes, I'm a massive fan (good to see there are others too)
The first Yello material I bought was "The New Mix In One Go".
My fav period was probably Stella & One Second.
Being a massive Miami Vice fan, several songs were used.
Call It Love, Desire, Moon on Ice & Si Senor The Hairy Grill (Did I miss any?).
Rumours of a new album have been circulating for a while, but nothing confirmed

The New Mix In One Go was the first album I listened to back in cassette days.
The film that got the most Yello is Nuns on the Run.
"THE RACE"
"MOON ON ICE"
"GOLD RUSH"
"HAWAIIAN CHANCE"
"ANOTHER RACE"
"DR. VAN STEINER"
"ON THE RUN"

I can't recommend the remasters highly enough.
So many remasters from other acts are very love em or hate em, but the Yello ones are excellent
You can find them for a decent price if you look around

At one point I considered getting a turntable, mainly because a lot of the remixes I wanted were not available on CD. Well even now those albums still have not found their way to CD, and most likely won't.
So what's keeping me from getting a TT? I guess I have just gotten so spoiled by the convenience of CD's that I decided against the thought of caring for LP's. But I know that a well cared for (and clean) LP on the right TT with the right cartridge can sound phenomenal!
I am in awe of your collection.

My first Yello CD was One Second. And after listening to it I knew I had to get every full length CD that they released.
And the ones you mentioned that were used in Miami Vice are the ones I remember as well.
Very cool that after 30 years they're still going strong!
