Can anyone recommend me some albums?

just sitting looking through itunes, i listen to my ipod a lot at work and i'm just finding that i listen to the same albums over again. i'm currently off for a week and i've just been paid so looking to get something new before i go back.

I have downloaded a few albums from recommendations i've seen on here before but i find it fairly difficult to pick from the massive lists!

a few of my current favourites:

Bon Iver - For emma
Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump
Lightspeed Champion - Falling Off the Lavender Bridge
Led Zeppelin - II,III,IV

I also listen to AC/DC, GNR, OCS, Nick Cave, damien rice, The beatles

any recommendations would be good

Scritti Politti's 'White Bread, Black Beer' is one of the best albums I have ever heard! You would do yourself a massive favour by giving it a try!!!!

Try Bonnie Prince billy-I see a darkness an outstanding dark moody album very much like cave/rice also have a fondness for Nick drake well worth checking his 3 albums out real classics.

Wide choice.......hmmmm.

For your Grandaddy enjoyment. The Flaming Lips-Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Radiohead-OK Computer, Secret Machines-Now here is Nowhere

Buckley-thats an odd one because he was influenced by the sound of Nirvana/Leonard Cohen/Led Zeppelin and his dad Tim Buckley. Take your pick. he was very different to Nick Drake who was more like John Martyn -Solid Air and Tim Buckley.

Neil Young.......phew,take your pick but I'm guessing that you go for the songwriting stuff of Harvest and After the Gold Rush and not the different style of Weld/Ragged Glory/Rust ?

Re: Can anyone recommend me some albums?

I found Nick Cave's The Birthday Party to be a bit of a rip off of The Pop Group. So you may wish to give them a listen.

Wink Re: Can anyone recommend me some albums?

If you are not on there already, another option is last.fm. You can get a page of recommendations of other artists after importing your itunes play counts. I find their recommendations are good for "filling in the gaps" of artists very similar to your normal listening habits.

If you want something more diverse - but still to your taste - you can also check out the charts of other users who listen the same artists.

(shameless self-promotion follows) Finally exitahead.co.uk can list all the items ebay matching your last.fm recommendations, so you can probably pick up some CDs for peanuts.

I don't know how old you are JimiAces, but I defy anyone to listen to the Electric Light Orchestra and not like them. Especially the 'Time', 'Out of the Blue' and 'Secret Messages' albums.

Re: Can anyone recommend me some albums?

+1 on last.fm. I've found so many great bands on there.

Given your taste in music, take a look at

My Morning Jacket - It Still Moves is one of the best rock records of the last 10 years, with a twist of country.

Drive-By Truckers - Classic sounding southern rock. Take a listen to The Dirty South or Decoration Day

Queens Of The Stone Age - Songs For The Deaf is another classic modern rock album.

Muse - THE BEST ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW!!

Re: Can anyone recommend me some albums?

oooh, so much choice now!!

@tobey, i have used last.fm but not much, most recently been using spotify to listen to free music but that doesnt recommend albums so i think i'll give it another go and i'll check out your site

Uzeless - I like ELO but i have only heard the usual (evil woman, turn to stone,mr blue sky etc.) a colleague at work bangs on about them all the time so its probably about time i had a proper listen!

Curly - thanks for the list, got the older doves and kasabian albums but not these two. i'll give them a try, love the who, not heard Killing joke i'll give em a try

shb367 - another album i've not got round to buying - i love all the old stuff so i'll definately be buying that one!

Lat.fm - Here I Come - so much to listen to....Drool!

That's a big list for a recommendation. I saw Van live once for one number when he sang Moon Dance with The Gil Evans Orchestra.

Re: Can anyone recommend me some albums?

Have you tried any Krokus? Sounds a bit like AC/DC!!

There Metal rendezvous is the best in mp opinion. This is the live version of Heatstrokes from that album:- YouTube - Krokus - Heatstroke

Lots of good songs on the album - its a cracker!!
