I use
iTunes to do this.
in iTunes
right click on the track -->
get info
Select the
options tab.
you can now set the
start and finish time so that it just covers the section of music you want to use (you can use hundredths of a second to get it really accurate)., when done press
ok
Try playing the track - you may need to tweak the start and finish times to get it spot on.
then to the top menu bar
edit -->
preferences
select
general tab
amend the '
import settings' to the format you want to create the new file in.
When done, right click on the track again, and select
create AAC/mp3 version (whatever import settings you have chosen).
Bingo!
you now have a new file just containing the bit you are interested in - you can pick this up from your the folder on the pc where your iTunes library is.
now reset the original track back to play the full length - just set the start and end time to be 0 - this puts it back to the default.
also remember to put your import preferences back to how you want them.
This technique can also be used to split out or remove the 'bonus' track you often find on the end of a CD.
