Rainbow's Singers

Having a retro night tonight.

Purely for vocal talent while singing for Rainbow, how would you place them?

I know Dio usually comes out head and shoulders above Bonnet and Turner but I'm not sure this is purely on his Rainbow performance...he has a big reputation which gets in the way I think.

Turner's as impressive, if not more so IMO.

Re: Rainbow's Singers

RJD ... head and shoulders above anyone else, and his Rainbow output head and shoulders above any other Dio output imho

Bonnet was okay ... but it was just one album

Personally find JLT vocals a bit too cheesy/soft-rock/"MOR" for my liking
- was a disaster for Deep Purple (Deep Purple Mark 5 History; Deep Purple Biography. Joe Lynn Turner) when they fired Gillan and brought him in (turning them into Purple Rainbow, saw this incarnation at the Hammersmith Odeon with Vixen supporting!! ... would be even more Rainbow than Purple now with Airey as well as Blackmore, Glover and JLT) .... but hey, if you like him then I'm guessing you're also a fan of his post-Rainbow/pre-Purple album with Malmsteen, Odyssey (Odyssey (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) as well as his Purple album, Slaves And Masters

Re: Rainbow's Singers

Just has to be RJD - cant beat Man on the Silver Mountain. The stuff I've heard from the new Heaven & Hell album sound like he will never lose his touch!

Re: Rainbow's Singers

Don't forget about Doogie White. A great voice which married well with the Rainbow sound. Still not as good as RJD, but pretty close.

Re: Rainbow's Singers

Got to be Ronnie. Saw him with Rainbow a couple of times and Sabbath as well. Can't beat a bit of Kill the King!
