Blade Runner - HD DVD / BluRay

Warner have confirmed that Blade Runner will be released as a five disc special edition on HD DVD and BluRay.

No details of release dates yet but Warner has confirmed that it will include a "recut 'Essential 25th Anniversary Edition' featuring both newly-shot and never-before-seen restored footage".

A release may of us have been waiting for

Drooooool ..... Have been waiting for this for ages. Other than getting it on Laserdisc years ago, have always held off getting it on DVD.

Re: Blade Runner - HD DVD / BluRay

The way it reads, different discs will contain different versions of the film (must be a first as they usually expect you to pay again and again for different versions)

Really hope the transfer is worthy of the film

Brilliant news, I cannot wait for this. It will be the 'Five-Disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition in Collectible “Deckard Briefcase” packaging for me!

Anyone know if this will be released in the UK too?

I matters not how much the set will cost me, it will be bought, and if needed time taken from work to watch it all

And to think, I'm in Florida on January 1st

Gotta be the 5 disc for me. I actually have the workprint on VHS - the differences are amazing.

Ditto. I shall get up early, make sure her indoors is outdoors and take the full day off to go through the entire set in one sitting.

Can't wait!

It will be more though if you can't pick it up from the States. I imagine the likes of Movietyme will this for at least £50.

Re: Blade Runner - HD DVD / BluRay

Amazon.com have some great prices for the HD versions of this set at the moment! The Complete Collector's Editions are especially attractive at this price which should come under the customs limit and is a super price for a 5-disc set! Order quickly!

I have included all of the links below so you can find it quickly. Even the Ultimate Edition (the one with the carrycase) comes at $69.95 which means even if you get stuck by customs it still may undercut the competition!

HD DVD (Five-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition) is up for preorder for $69.95 at amazon.com.

HD DVD (Five-Disc Complete Collector's Edition) version is $27.95 here.

Blu-ray (Five-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition) is up for preorder for $69.95 here.

Blu-ray (Five-Disc Complete Collector's Edition) version is $27.95 here.

Grrrr, I'd get the blu-ray but not sure if it's going to be region free, tempted to get a UK PS3 but this blu-ray region coding business is really putting me off

I think that all Warners titles have been region free so far on blu-ray, so unless they change their policy for this release, you should be OK

Re: Blade Runner - HD DVD / BluRay

Seems to be some conflicting information from news sources and retailers.

Does the complete edition include the fifth disc? Just the news sources say the complete is only the four discs and only the ultimate contains the fifth disc.

Won't Customs nab you? It's well over the £16 odd quid they allow? Better buy from somewhere like Movietyme I say. No customs charge.

I'm thinking the same thing myself , it works out about £35 before delivery costs and possibly customs ..... think i'll wait for more pre orders to surface

Better to risk getting away with £36 customs free or £36 plus customs than paying potentially £45-£50 with Movietyme and their delivery times recently have been dreadful and my last 3 parcels with Amazon have been customs free so i'm taking the chance! lol

Were the previous orders with Amazon single discs though? Single discs are fine, I've got some from Amazon myself with no customs charge but they do tend to sting you on the boxsets.

Re: Blade Runner - HD DVD / BluRay

Looking at about £16 charges from Customs & RM habbing it, so unless Movietyme are going to significantly cheaper then DVDWorldUSA and charge about £50, I think it may be worth the risk going with Amazon.

Nope - last 2 orders were from their "buy 2 get 1 free BluRays" so 3 discs in each parcel - they both were ordered from Amazon.com but both came with Germany postage stickers/franks!
