Alas the American "unrated director's cut" is still censored for nudity.

See this review for details and stills

The UK director's cut is unaltered so purists will perhaps hold out for a UK release. I'd much rather they released the original version than this (admitedly ok) remake

Didn't realise the US version was censored

Top film though, best Zombie movie for many a year.

Is this likely to be the case for the HD DVD release too?

Just read about censorship - it's completely beyond me how we're allowed to see all kinds of shooting, hacking, blood and guts, but they choose to censor a half naked woman???

It's bizzare! As for the HD DVD version I'd assume it will be taken from the same source the SD DVD was taken from - so no chest action for the Americans.

Is the DVD geek in you telling you to hold out for the uncensored UK HD DVD? I reckon it'll be a long time coming...

Surely it can't be that far behind. I already have this on DVD so I don't mind waiting for a bit.

I'd assume the opposite, with HD-DVD being region free there's no reason to create more than one version.

Censoring like that in an "Unrated DC" is totally insane!

Re: Dawn Of The Dead (2004) - August 28th

Bump

Guess this will be shipping soon. Anyone got it on Pre-Order?

Love this film so will be tempted muchly to double dip if the A/V is top notch.

EIV hold the UK rights, so an HD release over here will be BD only.

Re: Dawn Of The Dead (2004) - August 28th

I've got this on order with Movietyme. I'd forgotten all about the censorship issue on the US release. Dunno whether to cancel and wait for the UK version now. Whenever that'll be. Decisions, decisions...

Re: Dawn Of The Dead (2004) - August 28th

I don't understand this. The US DVD has a running time quoted as 110 mins for the directors cut. The BBFC website has only 3 versions of the film listed as passed for the UK: -

95m 55s
99m 58s and
104m 41s

So I can't see how the US version is 'more cut' than the UK.

Re: Dawn Of The Dead (2004) - August 28th

The US Unrated version is not cut as such, but during the scene when (Spoiler) the leading lady is fleeing in her car, near the start of the film, she witnesses a dazed, naked woman walking around. (End spoiler) Extra blood smears on the car windshield were digitally added to cover up the nudity.

A minor issue, but an annoying one for it's ridiculousness. As has been previously said, ultra-violence is ok, but a bit of boobage on display is a big no-no, it seems.

Got this on pre-order with Movietyme. Bit gutted that it's censored though.
