Buying DVDs online - How to see the audio type?

(I think I posted this in the wrong forum initially, didnt get any responses!)

Hi guys,

I'm very new to the world of home cinema (just got a Samsung HT-TX500 ) so excuse me if this is a really stupid question...

Looking at DVD's to buy online on Amazon for example, is there a way for me to know what type of Audio is on the DVD (ie DTS, DD etc)? Wondering about this as different releases seem to have different audio and so on.

Also, out of Dolby Digital, Dolby ProLogic-II and DTS, is DTS the best quality of these 3?

Last but not least, pretty much the same question for Bluray discs, do they all come with DTS minimum?

If anyone could shed some light on this new world for me it would be most appreciated

Thanks in advance!

Re: Buying DVDs online - How to see the audio type?

Amazon lists the specifications of some DVDs and not others. What I do is look at other stores Play.com, HMV etc... even if don't plan to buy from them just to see the specifications. You can always do a Google search as well.

Yes DTS is the best quality, then Dolby Digital. Dolby ProLogic-II is simply a system that processes a non-surround input and outputs it as surround sound.

Not all blu-rays come with DTS. They tend to have either Dolby Digital TrueHD or DTS HD. If your amplifier or blu-ray player cannot decode these or if you don't have proper connection you will simply get normal Dolby Digital or DTS.
