"1492: Conquest of Paradise" on DVD...Good movie. Crappy PQ.

Hi guys

I just saw the Ridley Scott film "1492: Conquest of Paradise". It was on a danish distributed region 2 DVD.

The movie itself was actually pretty good, but the Picture Quality was just A LOAD OF CRAP.

It looked like a VHS to DVD transfer. Very compressed and flat.

The movie could not be unscaled correctly either. When I set to 1080p on my dvd player, it just shows the movie in a 4:9 with black bars at the sides.

So I had to watch the movie at 520p and the picture was very unsharp and bad.

Anyone who has this movie and had the same experience?

Maybe it's just because of the bad mastering in PQ...I am not sure.

The sound quality on the dvd was ok though.

I have never liked the film and it has always looked bad to me. I only like the Vangelis msuic score.

Yes, another excellent Vangelis soundtrack that doesn't need a film to justify it's existence!

I listened the score for the first time before I watched the film. Perhaps, that is why I was disappointed with the film as the score was much better.

Try the soundtrack to Nankyoku monogatari (Antarctica), it is also one of my favourite Vangelis scores and I have never seen the film.
