Best way to rip DVDs?

Hey guys i thought this would be the best place to look for advice.
I am wanting to convert my DVD collection to hard drive for playback through media centre extender.

Im now after the settings i should use for TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress in order to give the best output for a 32" LCD tv. Looking to keep the file size to 1-1.5gb.

use dvdshrink (free) to rip the original DVD's, it gives you options to take out all the menus and foreign subtitles, this will give you a copy of your DVD.
Dont really get why your doing it apart from saving the original.

Downloaded avi files need converted using convertxtodvd (also free) great and easy to use programme, converts an avi file in around 30 mins then burn to DVD using your fav programme.

I think you have misunderstood. i want to store them on Hard drive to play through media centre extender onto my t.v so i want to know what the best format and settings are to get the best quality on my 32" LCD.

i certainly dont want to just rip the dvds then burn them back to dvd

The problem is that to rip a dvd to your hard drive you have to bypass the copy protection.

Ok.. so how would one do this?
as i said im looking for advice on what programs to use and the settings inorder to get the best quality possible whilst keeping the file size to around 1-1.5gb

Ive been advised to use AnyDVD and TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress to rip to hard drive.
So now im just after the settings i should use for TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress!

anyone got any ideas?
