Is an Upscaled DVD HD? Yes / No (Poll)

Do you consider an Upscaled DVD to be HD.. Yes? / No?

At this point I just want your first reaction to the question.

Re: Is an Upscaled DVD HD? Yes / No (Poll)

No, even though upscaled dvd's can be fairly decent they don't really get near proper HD quality.

The difference becomes even more apparent on bigger screen sizes.

Re: Is an Upscaled DVD HD? Yes / No (Poll)

Upscaled to a Higher resolution. Its forcing a HD resolution, but the initial source is not a native HD resolution (like HDDVDS, BLURAYS), therefore the upscaled picture is not proper HD.

Its a higher definition (HD) yes, but not native HD

Do you count 720p as HD?

yes, because its a native HD resolution, but not a forced 720p which has been upscaled from a non-native source i.e./ SD-DVD

When you say upscaled do you mean stretched, or mathematically enhanced?

Upscalers are mathematical transformers, for each output pixel they take a bunch of source pixels, weigh them by the nearness to the new pixel's location in the source, and combine them.

Re: Is an Upscaled DVD HD? Yes / No (Poll)

All upscaled means in practice is that the DVD is approaching HD quality, i.e. it's a salesman's term. "Almost As good as HD".

Cool Re: Is an Upscaled DVD HD? Yes / No (Poll)

Thread moved as this is more to do with the disc rather than movies.

Just to be clear...I'm not comparing it with Blu Ray.. just HD. I was just wondering if the Upscaled image gets close to 720p unique pixels during a 1080p Upscale. It's not that much of a step from 576, or whatever on a DVD.
