DVD-A on dvd player using s/pdif?

Hey chaps,

Prob been asked loads but search isn;t working.

I have a phillips dvd recorder and a phillips av reciver connected via s/pdif coax.

All my dvd's play in dts (or equilivent) but if I buy dvd-a disc's will these play in surround also as I have read on some pages that there is a lock on digital outputs for dvd-a's

I just want to know if it is worth me buying dvd-a's or will it not work?

Thanks

Darren

They won't play at all if you don't have a DVD-AUDIO player.

And then i'm pretty sure you can't use sp/dif,personally i use hdmi or the 6 channel analogue connection.

Re: DVD-A on dvd player using s/pdif?

thats the thing, I'm sure my dvd player will play audio dvd's (as most do now'days)
But I don't have analouge out, only digital from the dvd into my av reciever.

I think this is stupid really as I spend money on new equipment which won't play the things older equipment will!
I don't have hdmi from dvd, just composite r,g,b, and sp/dif out.
How can a dvd play in surround, but dvd audio not

gurrrrr

Would anybody know if there was a way to perhaps burn my own dvd/cd with surround 5.1 mp3's?
I have read that surround mp3's are out and about now.
I just want some of my tracks in surround sound.
