The Bank Job - UK Blu-Ray - Out Now

I had some time to kill today waiting for an appointment so I popped into Woolworths and noted that this movie was #1 in their Blu-Ray chart.

I'd never heard of it, but it's received pretty good reviews overall on Metacritic.

(Warning link may contain some plot spoilers, I haven't read it thoroughly).

Metacritic - The Bank Job

I couldn't find any reviews of the Blu-Ray itself, bar a very brief mention of the PQ and AQ on Amazon.

I don't suppose anyone has this yet?

Cheers.

PS - I'm hoping for the PQ of another Lionsgate / Statham production Crank which is a reference disc for me.

Bought it at the weekend and it is a very good film, very light hearted at first but becomes alot darker when it hits its stride, nice enough picture but not the best I have seen on the format.

Shame about your experience of the PQ being good not great.

Is it a movie you'd watch again and so would recommend a purchase?

Possibly would in a year or two if a mate came round who had not seen it I would dig it out, don't get me wrong, the picture was not bad or anything, just was not really the landscapes in the film to show it off, most of it is indoors you see, maybe if I did watch it again I would pay more attention to the details, that was a good thing the story kept me interested I would say.

Got this on on rental from Lovefilm today, only had time to watch half of it so far, but certainly enjoying what I've seen, if it continues as well to the end, I might buy it, if I can find it at a decent price.

Interested to see that it had DTS - MA HD 7.1 too.

Re: The Bank Job - UK Blu-Ray - Out Now

I was quite interested in this then I found out the writers were Clement and La Frenais. They were behind The Likely Lads, Porridge and Auf Wiedersehen Pet. As a result I put an order in for it straight away. It's been put in the post today. Should have it by the weekend. I've great hopes for it.

All the best

It's a Sunday afternoon with your dad kind of a movie. I don't mean that in a complementary way either. I don't understand the critical fawning over it whatsoever, particularly in the U.S.

Re: The Bank Job - UK Blu-Ray - Out Now

Well the comments from Goooner and wawr are a little more encouraging.

I think as brian s' copy is en route, I'll wait to see what he has to say too before pulling the trigger .....

Re: The Bank Job - UK Blu-Ray - Out Now

Watched this this evening, I thought it was very entertaining. Good old fashioned British movie, had a real 70's sweeney vibe about it if you know what I mean... PQ and sound was good, easily watch again... 7.5/10

Re: The Bank Job - UK Blu-Ray - Out Now

I watched this last night. The picture seems a little on the soft side to me (could be the 70's film making style though?). Good sound though. And a word of warning to folks with a projector set-up- the film is presented as a 'scope presentation, but the end credits roll in 1.85:1!!! I'm sure this is the 2nd BD movie I've seen that does this. Very annoying if you've carefully alligned a projection screen for 'scope projection.
