Thanks: Gave 853, Got 599 | Tartan Films in administration ....
The future of the movies whose distribution rights are held by Tartan Films are in doubt as they unfortunately have had to call in the administrators after making their entire staff redundant.
Tartan were particularly good for Asian releases with Oldboy and Battle Royale amongst the movies in their catalogue.
We'll have to see how this story develops. Source List of previous releases on DVD |

Rest in peace, I guess. The distributors once renowned for their attrocious DVD transfers, who kind of made up for it towards the end. Their Blu-Ray stuff was good. I enjoyed my discs of Paranoid Park and I'm a Cyborg. It's sad to see an independent distributor go like this. I wonder who gets the rights to their catalog now...

The key question is the one you ask though, what will happen to the catalogue and indeed can the firm itself be rescued?

The picture quality detail was impressive and the sound quality (DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD 5.1) was also impressive but a little on the quiet side at the beginning. Overall I'd say a 4-4.5 out of 5 disc.

So has anyone any idead what's happening with this, which is still listed at Amazon:
On the one hand I'm presuming it won't get a release.
On the other, if they've gone into administration that doesn't automatically halt everything, and it's possible some of these are already pressed.
Any ideas?

Steve W | Meh. Wait for the inevitable Korean release of the film and import it. It was highly unlikey that this edition was going to feature the superior black and white edit anyway.

Who knows. I don't mind either version - I'm not sure there's a lot in it.

Some good news.
Palisades Media Corp has acquired the majority of Tartan UK's library including titles such as The Proposition, Oldboy and Battle Royale.
There will be Blu-Ray releases of ex-Tartan titles. Source - see bottom left corner |
