Blu Ray Pricing v Normal DVD

Several months ago, you could go into a couple of the well known supermarkets and pick up the latest DVD for around £9.99/10.99. Now they all seem to be around £12.99/£13.99. Is this a ploy to try and encourage BR sales with a smaller price differential. Saw Rambo today in Sainsbury's for £19.47 on BR and £12.97 on normal. Okay not as cheap as internet, but a lot better than HMV or Zavvi.

I know what you are saying, however the difference between blu ray and standard in my local asda is about £3.
That said, you are right, the price of the standard dvd's do seem more expensive now.

To be honest, if they really want people to move over to blu ray, the prices need to fall drastically.
Who in their right minds will pay £25 for a blu ray movie (woolworths)
Also went into Gamestation today and they were trying to shift some PREOWNED blu rays for between £20 and £24.

Have you seen the price of Rambo and No Country for Old Men down at Asda?. Get BR down to say £15.99 and I'll start buying a few more. But I think I'll be sticking to up to date films as I've seen some reviews for older films that do not excite me that much, and a lot, ven later films do not seem to have many extras on them.

I have been thinking the other way. I keep seeing DVDs for £5 or less, and new releases for £7 to £9. I expect some high street shops probably charge stupid prices, but from my wanderings DVD has reached a low point.

Saw Rambo for £17.99 in gamestation today, and they had loads of copies, must have been at least 10-15

Gamestation is usually the best for high street prices

I never understand why people still pay such high prices from the likes of HMV , Virgin or any other High Street retailer for Blu Ray and SD DVD when almost everyone has access to the internet where prices are always cheaper

I agree with you.

There are bargains to be had in store but these are few and far between.

Blu-ray adoption rate is higher than DVD's at a comparative point in their lifespans. Prices are going to come down.

And i couldn't tell you about the price of DVD because I just don't look anymore.

Lets all go and spend £2.5K on our HD tvs, and then buy a load of VHS from a bootsale and get some decent HD viewing done.

Personally I think that DVDs are expensive, and don't buy films because I will watch them maybe once or twice and that is bad economy.
But I still rent them, and pay for HD broadcasts because otherwise I might as well have a portable Black and White TV.

I don't understand people spending £10 a day on fags, or more on drugs and booze. Personally I would rather spend it on entertainment, instead of killing myself. But hey, I don't live on a council estate.

I will probably regret that comment.

I predicted it ages ago. It was the only way to go, but it's not working, because the DVD's are staying on the shelves, and causing even more loss of profits. Then they are having to drop in price after about 3 months to £7.99.

I predict the next step...

Blu Ray Limited editions in a tin, with photos of the films to collect, and/or cigar box sliding cases.

I have noticed that Bluray is doing much better in recent months. I see more blu in shops like woolworths, WHSmiths, Sainsbury than ever before.

also remember all the extras on bluray's are usually just at dvd quality anyway, so no point in buying for extras only

That is a bit harsh. Many are at 1080i, a fair few at 1080p.

A large number are 480p, but there are still a large number of HD extras.

If you had argued that the extras are pointless then you would have a point.
