American werewolf in london HD-DVD screenshots needed
Hi Guys i wanted to ask if anybody here has the American werewolf in London HD-DVD to post some screen shots.Ive been intrested in the HD-DVD for a while but ive been hearing differing reviews on this so i wanted to look at some screenshots to get clarfication. Can i please state that if someone does post screenshots can you please do them on their orginal resolution so 1920 x 1080 if its 1080p (post the image on photobucket or the likes if the image size is to big), i dont think it does the quality any justice when people down size the image cos then you dont get an accurate representation of what the quality is really like. Cheers

Mate it is £3.99 delivered (£2 less than the DVD) at HMV, why not take the risk?

Well im ordering mine from the states im the getting hd-dvd/dvd combo but i thought id check with guys here what they thought of it cos form what ive read its not alot differnt to standard dvd and well i dont want to cough up money for the same print with a slight improvement. So have you had a chance to watch it paulst , how does it compare with the standard dvd. Please add some screenshots if you could please. you guys are probably wondering why im getting the states one well becuase i watched the regieon one /regieon 2 versions of the movie on dvd and the american was alot better. The colours were alot stronger and the audio was bang on where as the the uk one the audio seemed slower an thus made the actors sound retarded. I know its a bit weird when PAL has higher fps than NTSC but thats just an observation i made

There's no PAL/NTSC on HD DVD regardless of where you buy the disc from. Both the US and UK releases of this movie feature a 1080p/24fps transfer so there is no speed difference at all.

Re: American werewolf in london HD-DVD screenshots needed
There was some screenshots of that exact film posted up a while ago with HD and SD comparison, I belive there was a discussion about grain (as usual ) but the HD version clearly had better colours and fine detail. However, it's an old film so you can't expect amazing results!

AAWIL is my favorite film, the HD DVD is a letdown though.
Don't get me wrong, the film has never looked better but in places it does look rather poor - soft, dull and murky.
For £3 or whatever it's faults are not worth mentioning.

Here you go - Post #14 on Page 1:

Appologies if the pics are no longer there - I can't see them (a block at work), but they might show up on your PC at home.
If not you could always PM the OP.

Now only if they had HD back in the 80's they would have stuck to the road

The things that shot show more than anything are that (a) there's undeniably far more detail in the HD version, and (b) the SD version simply doesn't have the same amount of visible grain as it simply isn't detailed enough.

It also shows that something is wrong with the HD setup as well, because it's way darker, and less contrast than the SD setup. HD isn't calibrated properly IMO. And if it was calibrated properly I think the grain would stand out even more than it does.
