Thanks: Gave 51, Got 32 | Lord Of The Rings
Hey,
I've googled this but answers seem to vary, does anyone know if they ever plan on releasing LOTR in HD DVD format?
Just i'd rather wait and buy that then buy the standard dvd box set.
Thanks |

There is zero chance of the Lord of the Rings trilogy coming to HD-DVD. It will at some stage in the future come out on Blue-ray though.....

Ye, but if 2 million people have HD DVD's players and are willing to pay £50 odd for the box set, wouldn't it make some kinda sense for them to atleast think about releasing it on both.

in a recent internet conference with peter jackson, he stated that they were working on the blu-ray, but it wouldn't be out any time this year.

yeah Jackosn mentioned they were working on it and it certainly wouldnt be released in 2008. I'd imagine they will tie it in with the release of the next two films in some way.. so we might not see it for another two years or so

Millions of people still have Playstation 1's but you don't get games released for them. The market has moved on. Bringing out a version on HD DVD may cost a fair amount of money. New Line is owned by Warner and Warner have made it very clear they have abandoned the format.

However, the studios have made a decision to come down on one side of the format war, in the hope that it will improve overall high def uptake. There position will be, I'm sure, that the damage to future uptake caused by the confusion of them putting out such a release would cost them far more than they could possibly make.
