I think you have to wait for movies like Patch adams and battlefield earth to get released first as all the crappy stuff seems to get released then the good stuff follows after, I would love to see vertigo and rear window receive the HD treatment as long as they were remastered and not just thrown onto blu ray

Re: The one and only Hitchcock

Many of his greats were on Universal, who've released a decent boxed-set:

Vertigo/ The Birds/ Rear WIndow/ Marnie/ Frenzy/ Topaz/ The Trouble With Harry/ Torn Curtain/ Psycho/ Family Plot/ Saboteur/ Shadow Of A Doubt/Man Who Knew Too Much/ Rope

There's also a smaller, and less impressive (but still very decent) set from Warners:

Dial M For Murder / I Confess / Stage Fright / The Wrong Man / Strangers On A Train / North By Northwest

Vertigo received a restoration about 10 years ago, but the DVD release was non-anamorphic.

The UK release was anamorphic, but taken from the US master and 'upscaled'.

The US version finally got a proper anamorphic transfer in 2005 for Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection, and you'd have to guess it (anmd the others in the set?) had a new HD master struck then.

Sadly, Universal will have to dedicate much of their efforts/pressing plant allocation to re-releasing their HD DVD catalogue on the blu(e) format, as well as keeping up with new releases.

Warner have said they're working on a Blu-ray of North by Northwest for release either later this year or in 2009 (sorry, I can't remember which).

Re: The one and only Hitchcock

I would really like to get my hands on Vertigo, Rear window and North by northwest and more Hitchcock classics on blu. With all due respect some movies do not deserve to be on blu-ray, the Marine, Ghost rider and Dragon wars come to mind.

Yes, I find it a very unusual way of promoting a new format, it was same with dvd the first ones I owned were ones I didn't really want, it took years for back to the future and indiana jones to come out I hope its not going to be the same again

Indiana Jones, wish i could get that one on blu soon as well. I think they bring out the crappy movies first because they know people are excited about a new format that they will buy almost anything. If they started with good movies people would buy them but afterwards people would not buy the crappy ones for sure.

Re: The one and only Hitchcock

I think we might get lucky with Indiana Jones because of the new movie. They may release Indiana Jones early on blu to capitalise on the success of Kingdom of the crystal skull.

Re: The one and only Hitchcock

I don't hold much hope for Star wars, George Lucas is going to keep us waiting for sure. As for LOTR only time will tell. At least we have Begins and the Dark Knight to look foward to.
