I'm sure it will appear eventually - it's just a question of how long.

It's all a bit of a mess at the moment - Paramount and Universal were annoyingly quick to abandon HD DVD support without havng any Blu-ray backup in place. The net effect is there are currently no high def releases from those studios Hopefully we'll see releases start sooner rather than later - but I doubt the likes of Battlestar Galactica will be at the top of their list Why they didn't continue and push out HD DVD until (e.g.) end of 2008 is beyond me.

Personally I would have much prefered it if Universal and Paramount had continued with their HD DVD lineups whilst preparing to convert to Blu-ray - the discs must have been ready/nearly ready so cancelling makes little sense. The net effect is that we are all dipping out now as two of the best studios are not releasing on high def.

Being a high definition forum I don't think many will agree! I for one want to seeBSG in high def and thought the Season 1 HD DVDs were superb. They can improve on the packaging though!

Thanks for pointing this out to us Igans. £12.48 for series 1 on HD DVD is fantastic.

Please don't count our chickens on that one! Given how poor the HD DVD packaging was I am really hoping for an improvement in the Blu-ray version if/when it appears.

Re: Battlestar Gallactica and Blu-Ray?

I'd say 2 things are holding back Universal and Paramount. It takes several months lead-time to get a disc out. Beyond that though, the BDA is furiously expanding disc pressing capacity. There might be a line to get discs pressed now, without them...? Disc capacity was never gonna be an issue with HD-DVD but with Blu it is until they get ramped up.

I hope they are taking ages to get the quality right for Battlestar Galactica.. it needs a lot of work doing on it.

I don't quite understand the complaints about Galactica's pic quality, as from the outset the producers intended the show to look gritty & rough in a mock cinema verite manner. The Hi-Def pic is manipulated (grain added, colour/contrast altered etc.) to emphasise a stylistic choice, so the show will never look as glossy and pristine as many other HD production's do.

I would agree and do find it a little odd that the 3 hour pilot, which I believe was shot on 35mm film, looks inferior to the rest of the actual series though. So I suppose there may be some room for improvement there.

Stongly disagree - the grainy look is intentional and fundamental to the style of the show - if you want glossy perfect pictures look elsewhere.

It just has lower production values, hurried shooting, less than optimum lighting. It was shot on the cheap. I've seen it in SD and HD. I could tell the first time I saw the pilot in SD that they'd cheaped out. I said to myself, if it's a hit they may regret the quality....here, as we're hittin' the age of HD. Well, I quess they'll be sans regrets....peoples of earth we'll buy the crappier lookin' Pilot and 1st season ones just the same....
