Has anyone has seen or heard of this film being published or screened in any HD format?

Nothing has been announced or released for this title.
As it is a Spielberg film you will be waiting for a couple of years for this to come to blu-ray.

The problem with Spielberg and Lucas is that they want the market to become more established before they start releasing their titles on Blu-Ray. The longer they wait the greater their returns.

But on the other hand you could see it from the point of view that if some of their titles were released now then it might encourage customers to adopt Blu-Ray.

Spielberg does support Blu-Ray as does Lucas but just like Jake said it is all about numbers.

Lucas said in an interview that he is glad that the formatwar is over but don't expect Star Wars on Blu-Ray as it will be about 2 years before that is happening.
I think the same logic will apply to Schindler's List or a Jurassic Park.

How does that work? If ET was released tomorrow, early adopters would buy now and the rest would buy as they bought blu-ray players. If ET was released in two years early adopters have to wait.

Either way it's the same sales. Just that a later release means a higher day one sale an early release means the sales are spread over a longer time.

You might also argue you are better off releasing now as the longer time goes on the less likely you are to get away with a high price and there'd be more competition around.

I think the rationale is that a heavy % of overall disc sales occur in the first few weeks of release, when there;s "hype" and it's "new". Effectively, if something like star wars was released now, sure it will sell, but by the time BluRay becomes mass market (if it ever does), it will effectively be an old disc and won't shift as many units.

I sort of see the argument and would agree with a lesser film. I suppose most hype is from the launch however a big film will always sell.

Batman Begins on HD DVD was almost permanently in the HDDVD charts.

I think titles like Star Wars, LOTR and T2 will always be bought as people trade up to HD. Either the sales will come all at once with a late release or over a long period of time with an early release but I imagine if you were looking back at the overall sales from a point in time 50 years from now the overall sales will be the same.

Of course you could release a bare bones disk now and a deluxe version later if you want to regenerate hype.

In the first weeks of releasing a title prices are generally at their highest but over time titles will get discounted through price drops or multi-buy offers. By releasing titles once the format is better established, Lucas and Spielberg will maximise their returns before the inevitable discounting starts.
