Playback Of x264 (MKV) Files, Which Audio Codec?

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone can help me please?

I am playing back X264 (.mkv) files on my Media Center through an optical output into my Sony AV Amp (7.1) If I use ffdshow the video is choppy & audio is out of sync & CPU Load is 100% BUT I get 5.1 Sound. If I play the file using CoreAVC the CPU load is 20-30% PERFECT picture & PERFECT Sound BUT!! only Stereo 2.1

Obviously I want to continue using COREAVC but how can I get 5.1 sound using this codec? I know that COREAVC is a codec for Video only, but how does everyone else do this?

I can playback WMV files perfectly with 5.1 sound, just not x264

I am using Vista Ultimate & Media Center, I have to stay using this as I am using the mymovies addon.
