Correct - HD DVD was always a region free format - Blu Ray is not - it is up to the individual studio if they want to implement region coding (Fox and Siney always do but Warners don't at the moment).

Back to the original topic - I thought Beowulf was great - far better than I was expecting.

I thought so too. Not a bad film at all.

'All in all, this is a spectacular, reference quality transfer that makes for a great demo disc.'

'Still, the DD Plus track is reference quality through and through, and an easy frontrunner for best HD audio in 2008.'

Sounds like a good un.

Re: beowulf directors cut hd dvd

Watched this Sunday evening and was 'gobsmacked' by both the visuals and sound. Absolutely fantastic movie, in both senses of the word!

Re: beowulf directors cut hd dvd

just finished watching the disc, i saw it in digital 3d and thought the home version wouldnt compare! i was wrong this is THE reference disc if they actually filmed the actors just standing there in hd it still wouldnt look this sumptious, its just amazing its almost 3d at times even though its 2d, watching it on a 720p projector makes me want a 1080p projector even more than it did 2hrs ago, the thought of it looking more detailed than i just saw it is something to look forward too, as for the film my mates werent that fussed its not gonna be everyones cup of tea but if you have a HD setup this is what you need, it would be interseting to see if the blu ray transfer is any better(doubt it as its probably the same except for a WB logo instead of paramount)
oh yeah and the sound aint bad either gonna try it on the 1080p tv now
