Bluray releases recently. Is it just me?

Id just like to say that im pretty disappointed with the recent releases of blurays and to be honest the future releases dont interest me either (Master & Commander maby). Last year I thought there was alot of great films released, so many infact I was buying one nearly every week!
I know people like different types of films, but I think in general last year (and the year before!) was so much better than what we are getting now and what is coming up.
What does everyone else think?
p.s hopefully with bluray winning the format war, they film companys will treat us to some great films on bluray with amazing PQ and AQ.

It's still quite early in the year.. January is never a good month for, well, anything.
Except the sales ;-)

I know that but I was talking about the proposed future releases for the next few months too!

Re: Bluray releases recently. Is it just me?

Movie releases are pretty much aimed at the same demographic as the PS3, as it is the main blu-ray machine atm.

Re: Bluray releases recently. Is it just me?

Really since the turn of the year I have bought the following new releases (not including buying blus that were released last year):

The Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford
3:10 To Yuma
Cars
Ratatouille
Michael Clayton
In the Valley of Elah
Eastern Promises
30 Days of Night

Admitably half of those are imports but still IMHO it shows that good movies are being released. I do think last year good films were few and far between which may be why the good releases have slowed down but with Paramount/Universal going blu it means we will see films like no country for old men and american gangster shortly.

You'll find a lot of new (and catalog) titles getting released over the next few months with the demise of hd-dvd. It can only get better tbh.

you should! I usually look at release lists and then google the trailers (if I haven't heard of the film) and by doing so I have found quite a few good movies that i otherwise would have missed (e.g The Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford is my film of the year but bombed at the cinema and didn't get much bluray publicity).

Kevin, in addition to those listed above, I'd add Run Lola Run and 'Breaker' Morant. The former is out in the UK, the latter only in the US. I'm currently waiting for confirmation that it's region free (see recent review here).

Both are superb films, and both are BD-exclusive.

Re: Bluray releases recently. Is it just me?

I to am looking forward to BD releases coming at the same time as the SD versions. I will then buy my region free bluray player. I think they will be duel boxed as well very soon.

Who do people use for their US versions, PLAYUSA?
I heard you get hit for import duty now a lot more?

Re: Bluray releases recently. Is it just me?

There's not a lot of great films out on the format at the moment, but now the dust has settled on the 'war'... I'm looking forward to my HD most wanted coming along soon.

As long as an Indiana Jones boxset comes along soon, and the back catalogue of James Bond films too... I'll be a happy fella

Dunno about this. It's not going to get me to buy any. I think that the real problem is that the new film releases are coming out too slowly. Some years you have a batch of great movies, and some years it's slow. This year has some promising movies eventually, but shame that Star Trek got moved to 2009.
