UK Waterworld HD DVD
Just wondered what the quality of this disc is like and if it is cut at all from the US version.
Also on the Play website someone has made a comment stating that although it does not state on the box that this is infact the directors cut - is that true?
This is what he wrote:
"Waterworld is a very special film and like DOOM its full directors cut is available on the disc, also like doom it doesn't say so... bad idea not to show it really but the film is fantastic, a must buy"

Re: UK Waterworld HD DVD
Not too sure now if my WW is US or UK.. I'll check this evening. However IMHO it isn't the best looking disc, whilst it's obviously a good step up in quality compared to SD DVD, I didn't find much that was breathtaking.. and the PQ seemed to be a bit variable during the film.. The SQ was good, but so it should be
Good film though IMO although many hated it, but then I'm still waiting for The Postman in HD...

Re: UK Waterworld HD DVD
I have the American version and can confirm that is the standard edition.
Also no extras on disc - nothing!
I expect the UK version is the same with a new label on the box.
Easy to tell the Directors long cut as at the end climbing the mountain to wave goodbye to the Mariner they spot a plaque relating to Sir Edmund Hillary and him climbing Mount Everest which of course they are on.

Re: UK Waterworld HD DVD
I watched this ,this afternoon, and have to say that it's turning into one of my favourite movies of it's genre.....a sort of Mad Max on water....very enjoyable and well worth buying at the giveaway price it's currently available at(if only to see Jenny Tripplehorn dropping her kit.....what a woman ).I feel that the critics, unfairly, gave it an unmerciful pasting at the time of it's release and influenced moviegoers very negatively.....hence the poor box office receipts.Although I recently read(don't know how true) that far from losing money it made a tidy profit on Vhs and Dvd.Still can't see the massive budget on the screen,'though.

Re: UK Waterworld HD DVD
The director's cut AKA US TV extended version has never been available on DVD or HD-DVD. Wish was though, it may not make it in a oscar winning film, but the extended footage does give a more complete feeling.

Re: UK Waterworld HD DVD
Well I wouldn't go by any review on Play for a start, it's a pleb-magnet over there. I have heard though, that the PQ on the UK HD DVD is slightly better than the US release, as it was re-encoded at a later date,(Out Of Sight is also supposedly improved on the UK release).

Re: UK Waterworld HD DVD
I always enjoyed Waterworld as well, seen it many times. I never really understood what reviewers problems were with this film actually. I've also just ordered this one on HD-DVD, purely because of the price to add to the collection.
