My local ASDA dump HD discs

The big old Asda superstore close to me have decided to stop selling HD discs. I assume this is a chain decision? Shame as I thought they'd be among the first to start selling them at decent prices.

The lot. Just had a copy of the Blu SUPERBAD remaining. I asked where the section they had was moved to and was told they've stopped the sale of all HD discs.

Yep same at mine, I asked a couple of weeks ago and was told they'd stopped selling them.

Re: My local ASDA dump HD discs

I bought 'The Kingdom' on HD DVD from mine this morning (Great Bridge Birmingham) for £15.74. They had a large selection of both formats. Some were in a seperate area and some like Bourne 3 in new releases.

Re: My local ASDA dump HD discs

My local ASDA used to have a section dedicated to HD DVD/Blu-ray but got rid before Christmas. Now they just have the odd disc sitting next to the DVD of the same title in the Chart section, e.g. Transformers is available in store for both DVD and HD DVD. Unfortunately they don't do this for all titles - A Might Heart for example had the HD DVD nowhere to be seen.

What a strange decision.

Anyone know parent company Wal-Marts stance on HD? They're still backing it aren't they?

Re: My local ASDA dump HD discs

this is what my local Asda did in Livingston, Scotland.

Then, they made a new HD section next to the disney and kids films. All HD are basically £20. But if they are in the charts they will be cheaper, like Kingdom, 3:10 to Yuma.....but they usually only last a week or so.

Ok so just to be clear they got rid of all the HD on the shop floor so they could then set up a new dedicated section at some point later, is that right?

Also you mention that if they are a chart title they are cheaper than £20, how much cheaper please?

Re: My local ASDA dump HD discs

mine has stopped doing HD content, Aberdeen. Used to have it all in a sperate section with but now you might get the odd HD title next to the SD DVD if you are lucky.

Re: My local ASDA dump HD discs

Asda will display what sells. If lard spread sells, they will display it, if it doesn't they'll take it off the shelves. Same goes for hi-definition discs, I'd imagine.

Re: My local ASDA dump HD discs

Well, my local Asda in Fareham still has their normal HD section although the no. of HD-DVD's has been steadily decreasing. They used to be in a high definintion chart section, but were moved to four shelves in the main DVD/Games section before Christmas. I guess HD isn't ready for prime chart wall space yet.

Picked up Ratatouille/Pixar Shorts today for a bargain (I thought) £22.74. Std. BD of Ratatouille was £17 something. DVD only £10 though, unsurprisingly sold out too.
