Lack of Unrated HD or Blu ray???

When I purchased my RA Blu-Ray copy of Live Free or Die Hard I never noticed there was an unrated version! Unfortunately is only available of SD DVD
Now it looks like the same thing is happening with American Gangster due out 19 Feb on both SD and HD but once again the unrated version is only available on SD. Now I know that the unrated versions of films aren't always what they're cracked up to be but I'd have like to have had the choice on HD or Blu Ray???? What Gives

Re: Lack of Unrated HD or Blu ray???

the official reason behind there being no unrated LFODH on hi-def disc was that the unrated version wasn't completed in time to get the compression done for the blu-ray and still make the release date. The director was off on his promo tour for the movie and didn't put the unrated cut together until he got back... enough time to get the standard dvd masters ready, but not the hi-def ones. So rather than wait and push the release date back for HD by a few weeks, Fox just went with the PG13 cut on hi-def. At least, that's what Fox told www.thedigitalbits.com anyway. I'd imagine it's a similar kind of reason for American Gangster.

Hi-Def compression and mastering takes more time to do but studios have schedules to keep and money to make... and some release dates would appear to be written in stone. Shame, because it's always the consumer that seems to lose out

Re: Lack of Unrated HD or Blu ray???

sorry but i think that explanation is crap. It would seem far more obvious for the distributors. makers/ whoever to cream as much as they can from a film by first releasing the standard version and then to get the unrated one out. Theyve done it time and again on dvd and now we're seeing it filter through to hi def. They just want people to double dip.

To be honest, I think the same, same reason as per a lack of extras etc

Agreed. A total slap in the face to people who spend their hard earn cash only to find out a better/more complete version is out a few months later.

Re: Lack of Unrated HD or Blu ray???

I tend to agree with the last couple of posts. It does surprise me though that the unrated version was released at the same time as the standard version on SD. This seems to be happening more often with the bigger releases.
Let's watch this space and see if a Unrated Blu-Ray version of Die Hard 4 is forthcoming although in saying that I won't be double-dipping...Not a bad film but I doubt more cursing and blood splats will make it any better........
