Mr & Mrs Smith HD DVD - From Poland

I noticed while looking around online that Mr & Mrs Smith was available as an HD DVD in Poland. I couldn't find any of the .pl sites that offered any English buying screens so I asked one of the guys at work to help me before Xmas. Arrived this morning - ordered from www.vivid.pl - with shipping it came in at a rather expensive £27.72 according to my CC bill.

But it's one of those films that I like 'cause it takes almost no brain attention and is nice and lightweight viewing. "Guilty pleasures" I think is a good description.

I have watched the first 15 minutes and the transfer is OK, but I haven't checked the post-credits to see who did it. It's VC1 so is not the same encode as the BluRay and I noticed a couple or print specific marks but they are not annoying in anyway. The English audio tracks are DTS and DD - but I have no way of checking the bit rates and the back cover is no help.

In summary, £28 is lots to spend, but it's great for completeness

You could have course just gone to Movietyme and got it for £21.99 http://www.movietyme.com/catalog/pro...ducts_id=37366

I enjoy this film too and have the Blu-ray on the way

Yep, I got the HDDVD from movietyme, and I would say its an excellent transfer. One of these films that looks fabulous on HD. I had it on sddvd, and really enjoyed it (flame suit ready), so took the plunge, and glad I did. Angelina never looked better

The HD DVD version is a great little disc, with good sound and excellent video quality. If the Blu version was the unrated cut I'd probably have bought it for completeness' sake, but it's the theatrical version. Good ol' Fox...

Re: Mr & Mrs Smith HD DVD - From Poland

Thanks for the pointers for Movietyme. I did order a couple of titles from them ages ago but they (in turn) seemed far too expensive for most catalogue stuff so I simply stopped looking. Will start browsing again

Watched the whole thing last night - no much better to do on a Sat evening in the run up to NYE - and I thought it was quite well done. No credits to the mastering company at the end like in so many other discs, so can't tell who did the transfer. Audio was OK but my amp was playing up and didn't let me get to reference level with Audyssey enabled for some reason - had to play it at -0.5dB instead.
