HD DVD's In Shops!! (Not Many)

I have a HD-E1 player which has been fantastic.
The only thing that bugs me is the limited content of HD DVD's in shops at the mo.
I have a Woolworths and HMV near me and they both have far more blu-ray than hd.
Does this concern any people with hd dvd players or am i just being paranoid?
I tend to get mine online from movietyme.com...Still think there should be more choice in the shops though!!

Woolworths are partaking in a Sony led Blu-ray promotion at present so you can expect them to push BD only for the time being. HMV and others are probably stocking what is selling at present - and with £30 discs that is going to be Blu-ray to all those Region B locked, game starved PS3 owners. Things will balance out as prices become more reasonable - indeed the likes of Tesco and ASDA are being much more format neutral and stocking equal numbers of both formats.

It's something I've worried about. In my local Virgin Megastore Blu-Ray outnumbers HD-DVD's three to one. Literally. There are three sections of shelves commited to Blu-Ray and a poxy one section for HD-DVD's.
It's similar in HMV only they stock even less of both.
I buy online so I'm not fussed, only I'm concerned that shops seem to be pushing Blu-Ray and taking a really laid back approach to HDDVD.
Anyone shed any light on this?

Just been looking on play.com, and I've noticed that for whatever reason, we don't get any simultaneous releases of NEW RELEASE?!?!

Why? i.e. When Disney has just released Jungle Book, why not release the Blu Ray version as well? I know for this particular title, you wouldn't notice any difference, but you get my point?

When a DVD is released, why aren't we getting the HD/Blu Ray equivalent straight away? Is it only going to be the big boys that give us this? I.e. Paramount/Warner whoever is in these big syndicates?

This then brings me onto another point... if this is the case, then what happens with stuff released like comedy etc? i.e. Ricky Gervais's new show, that's not going to be made by a big studio, and probably not HD capabable cameras? Not sure, but is it going to be, anything other than films is going to be really slow coming to the HD formats?

There still seems a massive delay in getting HD material out there into the public and it's still a niche market... I walked into my local Asda this dinnertime, and hardly any HD material around... how long as this format been here and there's still not that much at all and just wondering why?

A few questions here and it's more of a discussion on HD (of which there's obviously been many already)... just read in Home Cinema that there's a bit more res been developed on TV's alot higher than 1080, so by the time we get 80% HD coverage, are we going to have moved on AGAIN to a higher res?

Who knows... who's disappointed with the adoption of HD in this country? Any opinions? Are companies really behind HD? Why buy HD players, when there isn't really that much content to buy in the shops?

Look at SkyHD... I mean I want it, but I just can't justify the price tag for what is essentially a load of demo channels and a handfull of HD channels... even SkyHD isn't fully loaded... so what's the point upgrading from standard Sky? If I want demos of what HD can do, I just download to the PC rather than pay for the privilege...

I think my main point which I've lost in all he drival lol, was that considering HD has now been out for ages, here's sweet FA considering out is there considering...

That is a good point.
Another thing that i find abit strange is that i have not seen much advertisment for either format on t.v.
You would have thought that with the war going on between the two formats that one or the other would be pushing the boat out more to get people to choose between the two.
I personaly am a fan of HD simply because of the price difference between them.
In a nut-shell,why spend £300+ on blu-ray player when you can spent around the £150 on a HD player which basically does the same job!

I think youre going to see a massive difference over he net 3-4 months, imply because of ONE company. TOSHIBA who in this country I think are the savior of HD in a way... I mean, now you have got NO excuse for not getting an HD player at the prices you can now... I mean a top notch player is £169 delivered or bought from Richer Sounds... now to me that's right in the price band that people WILL pay for... more than £299 and you're into a different market, ad above £750 you're into the audiophile market!

( why not 99.9% of film material is HD ready ,it's just that until recently we have not been able to view it )

(the people on this forum "us" are the for runners for this material ,soon all TV in peoples houses will be HD ready ,Joe public will then decide to use the TV to it's full potential )

Nahh, I disagree on Jungle Book as it's poorly animated anyway in that drawn way, so there's no way I'd but the HD version... something like Toy Story et all, yeah fair enough, but Jungle Book and the "hand drawn" ones will be lacking I reckon... I'd certainly want to view them before I bought them...

Have to admit, when I watched Toy Story and The Invincible last week on my HD TV (on a standard 576P signal), they looked well, astounding I will say that... I'd love to see them in HD, see what difference it makes... I don't think that much though... simple as there's not as much detail in an animated film than on a real life one where detail is everything and there's alot mroe going on!

I dont think there is much difference between SD and HD when it comes to annimated material.
I watched Finding Nemo on my HD-E1 the other day on SD and the picture was fantastic.
HD content (In my opinion) is not really needed in animated content.

That will come in time - we are already starting to see promotional material list the HD DVD (and/or Blu-ray) alongside the DVD. Go to town and look at the Oceans 13 stands for example.

If/when HD DVD 'wins' in the states, we'll follow.

Unless BD 'wins' in the states, in which case we'll follow.

Pointless spending money pushing it in the UK for either side.

This weekend my local Woolworths had 4 blu-ray and 0 hd in stock, thats a mess for people without internet. I'll keep looking on the internet for mine.

Pay £25 ish each in the shops or £17 ish on line with free delivery. High street shops for games, CD’s DVD etc are a rip off!
