HQV Benchmark Video test DVDs: special offer for AVForums Members.

The AVForums as well as some of the biggest review publications worldwide use the HQV Video test discs for our display device reviews. These unique discs are made to test every display device for video processing and assessment. You can also use them to test that next Display device purchase when shopping or just test how your system performs best making sure you use the best available video processing and cutting out unnessessary processing loops.

Here are the details on these unique Benchmark DVDs.

HD HQV Benchmark lets anyone objectively evaluate the picture quality of high-definition products, including displays, HD DVD and Blu-ray players, A/V receivers, and projectors.

“For the first time, consumers will be able to test the high-definition performance of their products to make sure they live up to the manufacturers’ claims,” said Jordan Du Val, Silicon Optix’s VP of Marketing. “The HD HQV Benchmark is a perfect companion to our very successful standard-definition HQV Benchmark, which tests a product’s ability to upconvert standard-definition material.

“The HD HQV Benchmark is already being used by journalists worldwide as a trusted source for product reviews. It’s a must-have for anyone considering an HD purchase, or for those who have already purchased and want to test the capabilities of their existing gear,” continued Du Val.

The HD HQV Benchmark begins with an introduction, an overview of the tests, and an explanation of how to use the included scorecard to assess any product like a pro.

The HD HQV Benchmark includes tests for noise, video resolution loss, “jaggies,” and film resolution loss—all recorded in 1080i video. The resolution test is used to determine if a player or display properly deinterlaces 1080i sources, the most common format for video-based content seen on broadcast and cable networks’ HD programming.

AVForums members can buy these benchmark DVDs at discount pricing direct from Silicon Optix using the following codes and by going to www.hqv.com/benchmark

UKAVFORUMBR ($5 off Blu-ray disc: USD $20)
UKAVFORUMHD ($5 off HD DVD disc: USD $20)
UKAVFORUMPAL ($5 off PAL disc: USD $20)

These are NOT video or audio set up discs; rather they are test discs for video processing. Please read the HQV website explanation before ordering
.

Just to be clear these are not set up discs, they are designed to test the video processing in displays, players and AV Amps. It should allow you to see how well the processing is in your system or even help you get rid fo unnessessary processing that may be going on.

Seems like a good idea
Are the DVD PAL disc meant to be used in SD DVD players which upscale .. or just used in SD mode?

If you read this:

http://www.hqv.com/contentEngine/dsp...f-cc9a26364c60

You can use to test either the DVD players de-interlacing/scaling abilities or the displays.

One comment I must make is in order to test the display, the DVD player must be able to output 576i which isn't all that common over HDMI.

$20 for shipping to the UK seems a bit steep

Please read the HQV website carefully, these are not video or audio set up discs, but test discs for video processing.

Nobody is forcing you to buy them, we are just passing on a discount which the kind people at HQV have given forum members. No everyone will benefit from these discs and it is worthwhile reading the website before you purchase.

Sorry if you think my complaint was directed at you, it wasnt. I was just saying that whilst the discount is appreciated the shipping costs still make it an expensive purchase.

Thanks however for bringing this title to my attention as i wasnt aware it existed. I will also be interested in any other discounts that become available to the forum members.

Does anyone know if the Blu-ray disc, coming from America, will play in UK region B Blu-ray players?
